HI Y'all....

Well...I did it..made an call to the local dr. for a consultation for a banding.

I was introduce to this site by a new friend that is getting the procedure in a week or so.

I have been lurking around for a week or so...

Like most that I read...I am just tired of fighting the diet battle...I know I should do more exercise, etc...

I am excited about the possiblities, and am going to give it shot if I meet all the criteria.

I have enjoyed reading the helpful comments made by all those who offer help to others.

Please start your prayers for me, and I am sure you will see lots of silly, need help, type of questions from me soon.

All the best..

Ken

'bigguy'...I HATE BEING CALLED BIG GUY,,so I used it as my name here, for the movivational purposes...it will remind me whenever I log on...why I am here, doing this,

I know it might seen wierd...but it is the way my silly brain operates.:)

Hey everyone,

I've known about lap-band for 3+ years now and for some reason it has been this week that just clicked and I finally realized that I've been fat for 10 years now (since I was 18) and that I'm not going to accomplish a 120lb weight loss without some major help...so I did it, I made an appt for a consult.

I *might* be getting insurance, they will probably have an exclusion on the policy so my guess is I'll be self-pay....investing money in me being happy, no question it's the right choice.

How did everyone else finally decide "enough trying to do this on my own, it's not working, let's look at other options"??? Just curious...

Welcome Big Guy and Jtag! I just joined the bandsters this week and this forum has been a Godsend! I'm hoping my surgery will be in August.

How I made the decision - I'm basically a positive person - except when it comes to my weight issue which I've battled all my life. when I was in high school I weighed between 135 and 150 - yep thought I was fat! I'm 5'8". Then when I got married I thought I was fat. Then I had a kid and another and another. Now I AM fat! Anyway, my sister (who is so incredibly thin and has been all her life) sent me a DVD of "The Secret". I guess she heard about it on Oprah. It's a little hokey, but the message of positve thinking just really stuck. For some reason I looked at my weight issue a little differently that day and just believed I would lose weight. I had no idea how. That was just a month ago. One night about 3 weeks ago I just decided on a whim to Google "lap band". I spent about 3 hours researching the procedure and doctors. The doctor I've chose is 3 1/2 hours away, but I'm happy with my choice. I just feel an incredible draw to him! The next morning as I was getting ready for work I turned on the tv and there was a commercial for lap band! I knew it was meant to be!

Had my psych eval today and I "passed" with flying colors. The pyschologist told me she thought I'd do really well even with the pre surgery liquid diet. That's the only part of this whole process that I'm a little concerned about. all I need to do is talk to the dietician and my paprework will be sent in to insurance. I will be talking to her some time next week. They are allowing me to talk to her over the phone because of the distance. With everyone's summer vacations I couldn't get both appts at the same time

BE POSITIVE:)

Yup thats where I have been going, I have been seeing Dr. Warden. He will be doing my surgery. I have been well satisfied with them, except for when my doc told me I had to lose 40-50lbs BEFORE the surgery. But I have been doing well on the Optifast diet, and will stay on it until surgery. I may lose more than the 50lbs before the surgery, if I keep it up.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
