So my WLS started when I found out I had PCOS. Basically it was a wake up call that if I ever wanted kids then I needed to get healthy and be pro-active. Fast forward 1.5 years. I had my gastric bypass 9/30/14 and am down from 330lbs to roughly 220lbs. Huge success for 8ish months but still not exactly where I want to be. Right now I am struggling with the "I am about to be 30 and still havent had a baby" phase of my life. Logically I know I have a ways to go before my journey is complete and it is recommended to wait minimum 18 months before getting pregnant, but the depression this realization has caused is stalling me and setting me back. Its just really hard to reconcile what your head wants and knows versus what your heart is yearning for. I dont really feel like I can express these feelings to anyone else and I am not sure if I am alone in this but to at least feel like I can put it out there, somewhere... well that helps some.

I don't know how much this will help...

So I have not had the surgery yet, but I do have PCOS and have not been able to have a child either. I understand it is so frustrating to see everyone else having children and wanting the same for yourself. PCOS is one of the reasons I'm working towards the gastric bypass, so I can have children. My surgeon told me that I needed to wait 18 months. I know it may seem hard, but wouldn't you like to be healthy when you bring a child into this world? That way you can teach him or her how to be healthy. Also, I'm sure that being a more healthy weight should increase your chances for not miscarrying. I personally have miscarried numerous times and it never gets easier. I know 18 months seems like a long time, but it gives you time to adjust to eating healthier and decreases your chances of miscarriage. :)

I'm still pre-op but I will tell you that 32 is not too old to be pregnant. More and more women are having healthy babies from healthy pregnancies into their 40's. The most important thing is that you go into pregnancy healthy - it makes everything about it easier. I've had three babies - and the healthier you can be, the better. I know how plans in our minds and our dreams don't always match up with how reality unfolds but don't let that get you down! By taking the steps to get yourself healthy now, you're already making a positive choice to be a better mom in the future!!! Hang in there!!!

Omg I sooo feel you...I'm 35 and the first thing I told my surgeon was I wanted to have a child and that's why I was getting healthy and going through with the surgery. He just said give him a year and I will get pregnant. I to suffer with PCOS and have suffered with it for a very long time and this is going to be my last option to becoming a mom. So I encourage you to just look at the end goal and just say you will end up getting pregnant. Girl...we don't have powdered eggs yet! Stay positive we're here for you!

Btw..im 6 days post op RNY

Ditto.

I'm pre-op, my date is July 15. I have PCOS as well and cannot wait to have a baby. I will be 35 probably before I give birth - older than I wanted, but I will be much healthier.

I have PCOS, and had a hysterectomy at 29. My body never got the memo. I can tell you that post surgery (10/15/14) I finally am rid of facial hair and some of my symptoms that have persisted even 9 years after. If I had known it would help rid me of some of my PCOS SYMPTOMS, I may have waited to have my hysterectomy. I hope this helps. ????. 30 is also not too old to be a new mommy neither is 35! My youngest was born at 34 for me. Via adoption, and I felt more prepared for her. ❤️ good luck future mamas!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
