So I'm 6 days post op. ..and will pass on:

1. Gas pains, gas pains, gas pains.

2. Don't trust a fart. .shuffle to toilet

3. Walk around the hospital as much as you can. . It helps the gas they pump in you to pass

4. Bring pillow for the ride home (bumps on the road hurt)

5. Did I say walk. ..walk walk

Best of luck we'll see you on the other side. ..my prayers for s smooth surgery and recovery.

Number 2 had me laughing so hard! THANKS FOR THAT!

Walk, walk, walk! The nurses were making comments that I was walking so much but in a good way! It's truly helps the gas.

Oh and good luck on your surgery! I hope all goes well!

Yes walking is the best thing for the gas and to get the blood moving! And..the best thing you can do for after surgery is get a stomach binder. They sell them online if you google bariatric stomach binders i think. It's gonna help heal your belly quicker and helps with the pain. Best 35 dollars I've spent. Good Luck!!

Honestly my binder caused so much more pain in the beginning that I couldn't use it. I asked my doctor about it and she said some it helps and some it doesn't. One of my friends couldn't live with out it.

@@B_Darkly how did everything go? I also had surgery on the 9th and can say the first two days were the two most difficult days of my life. My pain was manageable, but everything made me nauseous. I was receiving two different medications via IV and finally got it under control on the second day. Everyone talks about passing gas, well little did I know you also get diarrhea when your bowels begin moving again after the anesthesia, so that was interesting. When I was released to go to stage two (water), it made me nauseous, so I had to go back to ice chips. Then finally on day three was able to tolerate Water and Protein, so was released yesterday. Today I do feel a bit better, so I am hoping it gets better every day like people say. I have been taking my meds every 6 hours because I do not EVER want to feel like I did two days ago, it was horrible! I am interested in hearing how your journey has went this far.

@@Spiceyfrog It went well actually, still a little pain but it's almost gone. I have had SO much air in me, which is causing a lot of the pain. I've already lost 15lbs actually it's crazy.

Any advice for me? :)

Quick dissolve Gas X That has worked great for me and tiny sips of room temp Water after surgery, to keep hydrated. Also, follow your Doc's advice. Best of luck I had mine on Monday. Brian

I only spent one night in the hospital and was home by the next day, which I must say was the worst! It was the first day without my IV pain meds and the liquid Tylenol 3 was just not cutting it so I didn't even bother. Figured the narcotics would just constipate my anyhow! The Gas X strips are a lifesaver! Haven't had diarrhea once, have the other problem so I'm doing benefiber and stool softner and waiting! and waiting! I'm 19 days out now, still don't feel like I'm getting enough Water but I'm getting all I can handle! How much liquids are ya'll getting?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
