I just thought I'd warn you all that you'll probably be sick of me by the time I have my surgery in six months or so! =)

I went to my first informational seminar last night with Dr. Blaine Nease from Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV and I really liked him a lot. He was a down to earth guy with a great sense of humor, no arrogance at all (which I abhor in people!) I am so excited!! I was sitting there all cocky like, "Yeah, I knew that, learned it at lapbandtalk. Yep, knew that. Check, knew that too!" ha ha ha I really appreciate all of the great information I'm gleaning from this site.

Thanks for making me feel welcome everyone!

P.S. I'm a female. I think the name might be throwing people a little. =)

Gibson! Welcome!

You see that line under your name that says "Registered User"? You probably oughta think about changing that to "Not a dude". Otherwise you'll have single women all over your posts! LOL!

I thought I should add that I have a BMI of 52% and weigh 330 pounds. My insurance does pay for lap band surgery but I'm in the six month waiting period now. I'm hoping (and praying) that I'll be able to have the surgery during Christmas break because I'm a teacher and it would be great not to use my sick days for recovery.

I really believe this is going to work for me. I'm hopeful for the first time in years! My goal is to lose about 40 pounds before the surgery and start some sort of exercise regimen before the operation so I can be a little more fit to help my recovery. I know that won't be easy, but I am committed to making this work for me!

Thanks for the advice, Terri! I'd already considered that since someone PM'ed me after I posted on her thread and when I replied and told her I was a female she couldn't even mask her disappointment when she PMed me back! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
