How long did you take time off before going back to work....

Recommended Posts

I have a fairly stressful job although I am very laid back and look in control most of the time (Think duck gliding on top of the river all calm and serene but peddling like mad under the Water lol !!)

I am hoping to go back after 2 weeks - How long did you stay off? I don't want to put more pressure on the team once schools finish for the summer etc (my 4 are all grown up) but I don't want to go back until I feel well enough too.

I have a high impact and yes stressful job, I was cleared medically to go back after two weeks. One ask your surgeon and two base it on how you feel. I got cabin fever sitting at home! Good luck!

@@Veronica Page .. yes, must admit to not being someone who stays at home for long. I slipped 3 disc's in my neck in 2012 and only had 3 days off. Looking back I was silly and wouldn't be rushing back again. At least its lighter days/nights and my youngest son who's 17 will be at home (once school finishes). Thanks for the good luck !

I am really hoping to not take much time off, I have a desk job and I am the type that went back to work 5 days after childbirth (baby came to work too), 5 days after a hysterectomy, an the day after my knee scopes.

I was fine going back to work after a week, but I had a speedy recovery. I was blessed to not have any trapped gas pain.

Which procedure did you have?

I was back to work on day 6. It was exhausting but without disability, I needed the $ .. despite the surgeons 2 week recommendation. I am now almost 3 weeks post op and I feel Great!! I think getting back to work forced me to get past the post surgical hump.

I have plenty of paid time off, but I was just gone for 2weeks to go to Bali. I hate taking much time off so soon after that.

I went back to work after 10 days. I have a desk job, but it was a little more difficult than I anticipated. You really notice how often you get up from your chair when your stomach muscles are still healing! Although I was tired, I think going back to work quickly helped me adjust to my new eating program. PLUS, I was able to save my vacation time and treat myself to a nice, lengthy vacation one year out! For the first time in many years, I actually enjoyed shopping for shorts and sundresses, and (gasp!) didn't feel like crying when I tried on swimsuits!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
