Shayyy 2 Posted June 7, 2015 Time passes fast. Do what they tell you to do & don't cheat. The hard part is behind you. You'll be eating real food soon enough. I know it's hard but you can do it. I'm 5 months post op & have lost 108 lbs thanks so much it's just hard I'm really hungry any suggestions on getting over the hunger?
kempermorris 144 Posted June 7, 2015 Drink an extra Protein Shake if you have to. sugar free popsicles, sugar free jelly. You'll be on soft foods soon. I was on liquids for 1 month after surgery. 2 weeks before. Hardest thing I've ever done. But you CAN do this. The hunger should go away. Drink at least 3 Protein Shakes a day. Protein helps you heal & gives you energy. Stay Strong. Eating food at this stage would harm you. You made a decision to change your life & this is part of it. Take it one day at a time. You'll probably be on soft foods at the 2 week stage. Take all your supplements & drink your shakes. There's enough nutrition in your shakes to sustain you. Good Luck to you!! BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted June 7, 2015 I'm 5 days post op and I'm ready for real food at least puréed I'm starving and I'm getting tired of these liquids.. Any suggestions? Most people get sick of liquids. I didn't even have a pre-op diet and by the end of the first week I was sick of liquids as well. However I knew this is what I signed up for and I just sucked it up and powered through. I changed up my shakes as much as possible and sometimes I had veg broth with unflavored Protein powder to give myself a little variety, but I stuck to my diet. I'm 9 mths now and don't even think about how badly I wanted to chew until I come across a post like this. Hang in there!

Lillypad 8 Posted June 7, 2015 Geez I feel your pain! I'm 12 days out and I've been constantly hungry!! Nothing satisfies me. I'm starting puréed on Thursday but I couldn't wait. Yesterday I wrapped a small thin slice of turkey with an even smaller slice of cheese and slowly mashed it in my mouth. I felt really bad about it but I felt so much better!!!! I had been feeling tired and weak. Today I had my Protein Shake and just now I had half of a 100 cal guacamole pack. I'm stuffed. My body needed something. I'm gonna try and hold off til Thursday for final ok from dr. The hunger pains are finally gone though. I'm feeling back to normal. I'm not saying do what I did. But talk to your Dr and tell him how u feel. Good luck!!

RaginCajun 177 Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) Many here say they feel hunger quickly after the surgery, but realize that its not physically possible. 85%+ of your stomach was removed. What you feel is likely an emotional response to food, which was likely a big part of your life pre-surgery. Its almost like you have lost a friend. The good news is that you couldn't hold much, even if you did eat 'regular food'. So, just focus on ... doing what your program tells you to do ... one day at a time, one meal at a time, one bite/sip at a time. You have made the big step by having the surgery. Remind yourself every day why you did it. This is just a moment in your life, and will be a 'blink of an eye' when you look back 3-6 months from now. PS I am only 2 months post-op, and have lost 60 lbs, and my BMI has lowered from 55 to 46. -RC- Edited June 12, 2015 by RaginCajun
shane916 0 Posted June 12, 2015 I'm just starting out and I'm trying to read as much as possible. I'm slowly starting to incorporate a healthier diet before the surgery. I guess no matter how hard to you get ready, once you have your surgery it's the real deal.

wannaBthinsoon 1,634 Posted June 13, 2015 My surgery was 4/23/15, and just starting "real" foods. I can only eat a tiny bit on soft foods. I am supposed to be able to have raw veges if I want, and I just can't imagine it. I eat a table spoon of refried Beans with a little cheese, and I'm full. Once I hate a piece of deli ham wrapped around a cheese stick, and got in a hurry (we had to be somewhere) and I didn't chew it enough, and I wolfed it down. OMG!! don't do that!! Be mindful once you are allowed off liquids. Really!! When they say chew chew chew....they mean it. and take the whole 20 minutes to eat even the smallest amount. Otherwise, you will get uncomfortable, get the watery mouth and want to upchuck. I just can't imagine how anyone could gain after having this surgery, but they do. I swear I will not!! Protein is my friend!
Kindle 8,667 Posted June 13, 2015 Suck it up and be patient. You will be eating normal food soon enough. If you aren't on a PPI you should be because acid often feels like hunger. I was hungry most of my 34 days of pre/post op liquid diet. But 17 months later its all just a minor blip on my radar. It's very important to stick with your surgeons instructions at this point. Try and focus on your goals and why you did this. Don't get so bogged down in the "now"....it's only temporary.
