1 week 1 day post, and I swear I think about scallops (of all things) all day long. This is totally in my head but hoping it goes away??? Ugh! What happens when I am allowed to eat foods like scallops? I guess it could be a Protein thing? It's too early for me to be eating a full amount of protein though! Does this mind stuff get easier?

I have been craving filet mignon and tuna. And salad. All since my second week of preop diet. I am now 5 days postop. I think it might be a Protein thing. But remember, there are worse things you could crave than scallops!

OMG I craved everything from shrimp to chicken with anything but a little tiny bit of Mayonnaise on it. It totally gets better I am almost 3 months out eating anything I want moderation. The only thing I found hard to do was to realize when I was hungry. Before surgery I was full when the entire bag of potato chips was emptied. Now I might have one potato chip and feel full. But it's the realization that you're full. It's a whole new world and a fantastic journey that you will end up loving once you can eat solid food. I regretted the surgery and thought I was going to die with the stuff that I had to eat and drink for three weeks post surgery. But there is light at the tunnel and the journey is amazing, I'm glad I did it and I think you will be too

I previously had a lap band and lost only 35 pounds. So when I got to the 35 pound mark with my RNY I panicked thinking this is it I'm not gonna lose anymore and then I got on the scale and I'm now losing 2 pounds a week which is fine for me. When I first had the surgery I wanted 10 pounds a week to come off. It's just not like that I might go week without losing anything and then I would lose five or 6 pounds in one day. So stick with it and don't be too discouraged because you'll be able to eat anything you want in moderation as long as you know your full

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
