More hungry at 8 months?

Recommended Posts

I'm 8 months post op and have been doing great. I'm down 108 lbs. I still follow the program to a T. I exercise 4 times a week. I have about 18 lbs to go to goal. Lately I've found the hunger creeping back. I have to really pay attention to my intake. I'm not giving in to it. However, it's scary to me. Is this normal at this stage? My co workers think I've become obsessive. I've never had even a bit of something sweet or any bread, rice, Pasta, potatoes, grains, etc.... I haven't even had caffeine. I just don't feel like I'm where I need to be and am not ready to eat any of that.

You are doing great! And not giving in to the temptations of unhealthy eating is a great accomplishment!

I don't think that being hungry will make you become undisciplined all of a sudden. You will eat more of the good foods that you have been eating. I am sure with the success that you have had that you already know what healthy Snacks to eat when you do feel hungry and you know the strategies for discerning whether or not it is "true" hunger.

Don't worry, you will keep it together. You come too far to let your hard work go to waste. :)

Thanks so much! I think you're right. I know what to do and not do. I guess it's just scary when this happens!

I'm almost 8 months out & hunger has returned for me too.

It definitely takes discipline & planning to make sure I stay within my calorie allowance.

I am very impressed that you have stayed away from the bad carbs, you are an inspiration. Continued success to you.

My hunger and restriction changed dramatically between 6 and 10 months. Even more hunger and a little less restriction between 10 and 16 months. After awhile it really does just become all a mental game. The best you can do is stick to all the new habits you learned along the way and keep eating healthy. Unfortunately Resisting temptation to backslide is going to be a lifetime challenge. Just keep fighting the good fight.

I haven't had my surgery yet so I don't know what your hunger feels like, but I guess I'm wondering why are people hungry? Hunger is when the stomach is empty and is irritated, when it is normal size or bigger the sides may rub against each other causing irritation, but with the stomach being so small what causes the hunger pangs?

My hunger is an empty, hollow pit in my tummy. Sometimes with a little gastritis. I usually eat every 2-3 hours, but if I go longer than that I get queasy, light headed and cranky.

Thanks! For me, it's just been better to avoid it all entirely. It hasn't really been hard to do. I'm so determined to be successful with this that I was giving it 110%!

Thanks Kindle. Yes, I definitely feel that things have changed restriction wise as well.

And I agree with Kindle. That's how hunger is for me too. I also have to eat something every 2-3 hours.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
