Hang in there- it will get better. My surgery was a month ago. (May 4) I had a lot of pain at first too.

1) Focus on getting fluids first- stay hydrated- one sip at a time.

2) Once that is under control, then worry about Protein....

I had a good start- one week on full liquids, one week on pureed foods, then I started on soft foods. I pulled a muscle, which caused pain and nausea, and I ended up in the hospital for dehydration. So I had to go back to square one- Clear Liquids for a week, and just starting on Protein shakes and yogurt.

It was a set back, but I am starting fresh and feeling really good now.

It will get better!

It does get easier! Hang in there. I just try to remember where I came from and how miserable that place could be. Future is looking bright!

I was feeling so bad at first too. It took me about 2 weeks to really start to feel like I might actually survive. Hang in there, it's going to get better. I still can only get in about half my Protein, and luckily nearly all the liquids I'm supposed to. I haven't had real hunger though either, so I can't imagine if someone is hungry and just not able to eat. I've dealt with much more nausea than I care to even mention.

Keep hydrated, that's most important. Everything else will happen in it's time.

Well one thing I keep telling myself when I know I am not getting enough nutrition into me, is that I'm not going to waste away any time soon. I'm pretty sure I could sustain for quite some time. LOL

I had a hard liquids day. I have to be more diligent in getting those liquids in. I am still about 10 oz. shy daily. I'm taking in about half the Protein I should be. I just keep working on it. I have no hunger, or nothing in me that triggers the need to eat anymore. I'm amazed at how this has changed my life already. No hunger. Do you know how cool that is? LOL

I don't know how long this will last, I'd be happy if it were the rest of my life. I eat only because I am reminded I have to.

Hang in there. It totally gets better. My pain meds didn't work post surgery so I feel ya. It took me two and a half weeks to feel better. My only regret is I didn't do this 10 years ago. You'll come to love your surgery!

I think we have all uttered the words "what the heck have I done to myself". I know I did...but now being 10 days post op with the pain almost gone and actually starting to see the weight drop like an airplane's altimeter, I know exactly what I've done and why. You can do this! It will get better! Drink, drink, drink! :)

19 days post surgery and I feel almost normal again! Only thing is I get tired during the day and often need a mid afternoon nap. I get my Water in and my Protein, and walk at least a mile.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
