Surgery scheduled for June 15

Recommended Posts

I am excited and nervous, but I am ready to get this started. I went to informational meeting on Jan 8, 2015. Started nutrition classes in Feb, had to go once a month for 4 months for insurance to cover the operation, had my pre-op appt on the 3 of June along with EKG, blood work and chest X Ray. I am on my pre-op diet now and doing good. I got to different kinds of Protein Shakes, tried chocolate (which is not my favor flavor) put ice in it and didn't do so well. So I tried vanilla last night and it made me physically sick. This morning tried the chocolate again, but put it in the freezer for a bit and did good. Going to Vitamin Shoppe today to try and get some other flavors. If any of you are the same day, I would like to keep in touch with you so we can walk through this together!!!

i def had to mix up my Protein, i would mix the chocolate and vanilla together and even still have to, they both make me blah! sometimes the milk based ones are hard on the tummy after a while, there are a lot of cool fruit flavored Proteins you can get , you should give those a try if they are approved by your surgeon, i believe its called Isopure and GNC has it

welcome to the club congrats on your surgery date!!

i was so nervous and scared but now i cant believe its done and over and i survived!!

Definitely make sure your shakes are Surgeon approved. The Protein derivitive is very important, it has to have whey isolates I believe is the term. I am using New Direction and they are very good. My surgery is scheduled for Monday June 8th so would be great to have buddies.

Grandmaofone you have the vanilla and you can add flavor to it. The chocolate add a little banana flavor to it.

Please remember as much as it seems like it's gonna hurt its not as bad as you think, as soon as you think you can do the walking, it's the only reason I was able to leave the next day, it makes you stretch out and makes the gas pain tolerable, I also had a peculiar sure effect of everything they brought me seeming too sweet, I did excellent with the Water and ice chips, don't try to hold off on your pain meds, take them as often as you need them, I also asked the next morning to let me start taking my home pain meds and get me off the morphine, I hope this helps and good luck, people on here have stood by me through everything and now I want to pay it forward, so if this helps anyone it's what matters to me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
