When did you start to feel like yourself again?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how long after surgery did you start to feel "normal" again? Or, I guess, maybe the new normal that is your life post-surgery? When did your energy come back and you start to be fairly active again? ot necessarily running miles, but back to your activity level pre-surgery? Basically, when did you feel like YOU again?

Still waiting. I'm guessing it's not 2 weeks and 2 days out from surgery. LOL

I feel I have a long way to feel whatever feels GREAT again, hell, even good! I'm holding my own, but I still feel pretty fragile, to me.

Great question, @RuxieGirl

I had RNY surgery. I reached my "happy state" at 6 months.

I am 13 weeks out and stopped being overly tired around 8 weeks. But the overwhelming feeling of exhaustion let up about 4 weeks. Just the other day I realized I was able to go hard all day without being real tired.

Hello everyone! I am about 5 days post gastric sleeve and hernia repair. I am definitely tired and lacking energy but when is it time to start pushing myself to start walking or doing housework again? I feel like a bum just sitting around all day but am nervous to do too much in fear my pain level will increase.... Any suggestions?

Funny enough it was at exactly 11 weeks, which was 4 days ago. It was the first time I worked a 12+ hour shift and did not feel like falling over. The next day I woke up early to go to the gym and did not curse everything from the sound of my alarm to the doors to the gym. And it repeated today so I'm guessing it's for real.

I am 4 months and 1 week out and it is hard to remember. I do know that my oldest son got married at 10 weeks and I know I felt normal then. We had to travel out of town, were busy all day long for about four days with family get togethers, pre-wedding errands, etc. The day of the wedding started around 7 am with hair and make up, ceremony, reception and we were the last ones to leave with the bride's parents at 1 a.m. I know I was very happy that day and felt great. So, I would say I was feeling back to normal some time before 10 weeks. Hope this helps!

Week 5 post Op approaching and I'm just starting to feel " normal" I definitely notice a difference from week to week . Still feel like an afternoon nap would be nice everyday but that need diminishes each day.

I feel like I can step up the exercise to a longer period of time and up the intensity now.

2 weeks and 5 days out and I can exercise for 45 min but just want to curl up in a ball and sleep the rest of the day after that!

I honestly didn't feel like ME again until I was about four months post-op. But I did have a hiccup along the way - a nasty bout of pneumonia when I was two and a half months post-op!

Well I'm hoping that I get to feel like me soon! It's been 2 in a half months since my surgery and I don't get hungry and when I do I try to eat and my stomach doesn't want to accept what I'm eating. Plz can someone answer if they have or had the same problem and when does it get better?

I was in your shoes! I wound up having two EGDs (endoscopies) three months apart - each time they found a minor stricture (narrowing of the opening to the stomach pouch), and I was also diagnosed with "motility disorder". But that's just a fancy, quick way to say that my brain and new stomach weren't properly communicating with each other, so sometimes food would go down, and other times it would come back up. There was no rhyme or reason. During my first six to eight months post-op I spent a LOT of time throwing up my meals. A friend even joked I should have started plotting my "vomit spots" on a map - restaurant bathrooms, grocery store parking lots, the bathrooms of friends' houses, etc. One time I even threw up in a bubble-wrap-lined shipping envelope that was in my car, because it's all I had at the time!

All I can say is: it gets better. If you have a day where solids come up, switch to shakes or pure liquids for the remainder of that day, and the day after just to play it safe, and to rest your temperamental pouch.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
