Big Pharma has its place and, yes, they make medicine that we all take and need, not to mention the Lapband. But that does not mean that they don't overcharge for that medication and continue to rely on agressive marketing campaigns to promote these often overpriced drugs. Whether we need a product that someone makes or not does not justify the excessive cost. Let's not forget that they are a BUSINESS. I'm not saying that everyone who works for Big Pharma is a money-hungry monster, but to insinuate that their prices are reasonable and that they are out there to solely to save lives isn't really looking at the big picture.

I can't believe that they expect us to pay for this. When will we learn!!!!! Every diet pill, aid, gadget I have fallen for that promises dramatic weight loss also states that you MUST follow a calorie restricted eating plan and exercise program. Never has any of these diet aids helped to curb my appetite for more than a few days....its almost as if you grow an immunity to them, and quickly.

Save your money people....they are all gimmicks with a capital G.

Treatment Effects. Wonder who thought that one up? Can't you just hear the talk around the conference table??

"Ok, people! Our task for today is to come up with a palatable word for the slimey orange oil that is discharged from your anus when you use this stuff! Barney? Got any ideas? How about you Claire? Bob?"

Barney: "How about 'squeezins'"?

Claire: "Metabolic Products"?

Bob: "Lube"?

.........what a vision.

OMG I love "Squeezins"! LOL!

No I don't work for a Big Pharma company. I think insurance companies get a bad rap too but I don't work for one of them either.

To the previous poster, yes, it is a business. Just like your doctor. However, no one is saying the "Big Doctors" are only doing surgery for money -but they are. What's the difference? Why isn't anyone outraged at "Big Doctors"? It's not illegal or immoral in America to make money. Let's not forget that.

And how do we know if something is overpriced? Do we know how much research money they spent? How much it costs to pay their employees? How much it costs for raw materials, patents, lawyers, manufacturing, etc?

I don't disagree with you about the ads though. Just don't think lawyers or pharmaceuticals should be on TV. Just an opinion though.

Insurance companies do get a bad rap....my husband works for Blue Cross (who would NOT pay for my band by the way) and they put alot of their profits back into research making a better product to offer their customer etc....i'm sure their CEO makes a nice salary and all, but the average worker makes a decent living, but they have to contribute towards their own insurance policy...nothing is free anymore now is it?:omg:

TerriDoodle,

Your post made me laugh out loud. Great way to start my day. Thank you. (I think I've lost my yen for pizza, though...)

Ain't THAT the truth!! When the family is sitting around eating a pizza, I'll try to envision "treatment effects".....or what is otherwise fondly known as "squeezins". That ought to take care of any notion I have of eating it!:tired

Gee, I remember those "effects" when taking xenical! Wonder if it's the same thing! BTW, I'll pb every day for the rest of my life before I'll have an "oil spill" from taking that stuff! LOL!

I took Xenical, and it's a great drug, primarily a behavior modification tool, and I lost 65 lbs in about 8-9 months. Ended up having two fairly major health issues, which kept me from being able to move around, and of course, with no exercise I gained the weight back, and here I am. As far as the drug, it's a very useful tool, not a miracle drug. It's much like a band- it is as good as the person using it permits it to be. (and yes you can eat some fat, just not tons of it- if you watch the amount you never have the "oily discharge", but screw up..and EWWWWWWWWWW.

I had to come back and say you are a genius, TerriDoodle! I've been laughing to myself for 2 days now. I told my husband about "squeezins" and he was cracking up (we've both been on Xenical). We went out with friends for dinner and I ordered fish, he got Pasta and our friends got pizza. My hubby said out loud "Wow, that pizza's got a lot of squeezins on it" and our friend said "I know! Doesn't it look yummy?" We were both on the floor! Our other friend was like "what?" We just changed the subject and went on with dinner but in the car we laughed all the way home.

You belong in the hall of fame!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
