Hi everyone , I found this site when I was looking around for other people's experience . I had lapband surgery 3-18-15. I have lost 5 lbs as of this a.m. I have not had a fill yet . I think I need one , I see the Dr on the 11th . On 2-1-15 I started the liquid diet , I was originally scheduled for 2-11-15, I ended up with bronchitis so obviously it was post phoned . I lost 26 lbs on my own , by my 3-18, surgery . I have seen the Dr two times so far . She felt I didn't need a fill on 8 weeks out. I am getting frustrated , I have really only last 52lbs with the band . And I am doing everything I am supposed to . I will never give up , and I think it was the right choice . But I don't understand if I am only having at the most 900 calories a day , and I really try with the Protein to get 60-80 mg. I usually only get about 50mg. I use my fit bit religiosily. I really think I should be at least another 52lbs down by now . I exercise , I am stuck for the last month up & down the same 3-5 lbs. Very discouraging . Any advice ? ?

I started my journey in February and I am only down ~ 35 lbs. It sounds like you are getting great results. My Dr. also made me wait 2 months for my first fill. I just got another this week and I suspect I will be in for another within the month. I think we just need to be patient. Also, did I read that you thought you would lose >100 lbs in a few months? That sounds dangerous.

Hi Karen. I know you are new to the lapband so please speak with your doctor and/or nutritionist and they will tell you as I'm telling you that you are doing amazingly well.

If you don't like the scale going up and down, stay off it. There are a ton of ways to know you are doing well without ever going on the scale. How do you feel? How are your clothes fitting? Are you fitting into chairs, restaurant booths, tight spots? Are people noticing your weight loss? Can you walk faster, longer, easier? Are you not out of breath when you go up the stairs?

Believe me...this is much more than numbers on a scale. Celebrate each and every day that you are following a good program and learning how to eat well and make good choices. This is not a race. You didn't gain it overnight and you won't lose it that way either.

Please don't stress this. The weight loss is not a linear journey. You will go up, down, and stall at times. Just focus on continuing to do well and you will be fine.

Did I understand you correctly? You lost 52 lbs in 3 months. Thats 17 lbs a month. That's fantastic. At that rate you will achieve your goal before you know it. It took a long time to put the weight on it will take a while to loose it. Hang in there. You will achieve your goal.

Congrats. You made the right decision. You won't be sorry, Yes not feeling hungry is a big part of the surgery. Just hang in there. There will not be a problem with the liquid diet. Just take one day at a time.

Tigerlady.,

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
