2 years out from RNY and need advice!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am two years out from having my RNY surgery. At first I felt like everything was going great and it really isn't to bad. But in the last couple of weeks I have put on 4 pounds and I am freaking out about it. I feel like I have failed this surgery. I just need some help and encouragement to get me back on track and lose this 4 pounds I put on and 15 more that I wanted to lose after surgery. Any one else put on weight 2 plus years out? And if so where you able to take it back off and how did you do it? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Therese

I am only a week post op. But my surgeon told me to weight daily. If I gain 3 lbs that is a fluctuation and if I gain 4 lbs its an actual weight gain. Gaining the weight back is the biggest fear for me since I had the lap band and lost 100 lbs then gained back 87bs when my band slipped and they removed all the saline.

I see everyone post - go back to the basics. That is what I would advise. Do you use a food journal or diary like MyFitnessPal? If so, continue tracking everything. If not, then start. Focus on Protein. Cut our all refined carbs - sugar, flour, bread, etc. Hold off on the rice and Pasta for awhile. Make sure you are getting in enough Water each day. Google five day pouch test. Read up on that and try that. Check your exercise/activity level. If you have stopped exercising, start back again. That is what I would do if I were in your shoes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
