steelmagnolia1977 4 Posted June 5, 2015 Following...need to know the answer to this for my own medicines!
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted June 5, 2015 You will need to coordinate this between the Dr. who prescribes your meds and your surgeon. Let your surgeon know what you are taking and he can let you know what to take the day of surgery. I was able to take everything the morning of surgery at home and then they gave them to me while I was in the hospital.
liannatx 897 Posted June 5, 2015 I was taking acid blockers and any meds from the first day home. Even my pain pills were in pill form.
Carole61 2 Posted June 5, 2015 I am so relieved! Thank you. How much pain were you in and for how long? How much pain meds did you need?
ValerieDee1975 55 Posted June 5, 2015 I am bipolar and need to take medications in the morning and in the evening. pills. Will I be able to do this right after surgery? Not sure if it's the same everywhere...but your doc or his/her office should tell you that....in my case, when I did the pre-op testing about a week before surgery, we went over all my meds and they told me which ones i could take that day. I had even had everything (almost) changed over to liquid or chewable beforehand. Once you are admitted, they will take over your meds...amazingly, I was actually able to take the pill form of my super needed ones (my morphine and lyrica) with no problems...just one at a time with tiny sips instead of taking them all ...but again, ask your docs office and make sure they are aware that those are ones that you cannot skip...they should be able to take it from there! Good luck!

anikka 32 Posted June 5, 2015 Definitely talk with your doc, but I was given my meds the morning after surgery in pill form. I had no issue getting them down. I was able to take several pills in one swallow before surgery so maybe I just mentally figure I can take them easily one at a time now.
