My Black Bean Soup Story

Recommended Posts

So it's been a little over a week since I was sleeved and well over two weeks since I started my full liquids diet. I started getting sick of Greek yogurts, popsicles, chocolate Protein Shakes, and Tomato Soup. All so sweet! So today I decided to make black bean soup! It's easy to puree, will provide Protein, and will satisfy my savory craving. So I made the Soup, and like any good home cook, I took a few (liquid) tastes throughout the process to check seasoning. Finally, the soup was finished. I took one last taste and the seasoning was spot on! I stared at the pureed result in my Ninja blender and realized... I was full!

I still can't stop laughing at the ridiculousness of being full from making my soup without even pouring myself some! Guess this is my future - lots and lots of leftovers!

I love when I go out to eat and I find I have leftovers for 4-5 days...lol And to think I used to eat the whole meal.

:o

Love it! Isn't it crazy to realize just how little that stomach can hold?

@@Sara51692 - :) Yes, this is our future........ And black bean Soup is one of my favorite "go to" meals!! I will even add a little browned Jimmy Dean sausage to it to ramp up the flavor even more.

My comfortable serving size is 1/2 cup still. To make life a little easier for me at work, I bought some nice, square 1/2 cup plastic containers with lids to put my black bean soup in for lunches at work. Then I stock the freezer at work with such items so that I'm never without something tasty for lunch. I found I like the square containers better than round ones. (Walmart)

I waited about an hour and had two more little spoonfuls! It was delicious. I have little portion baggies from Wal-Mart that someone from support group showed me, so I've been freezing all my leftover Soup in.

Even though I knew it was going to be this small beforehand, I'm still in shock how quickly I get full! I'm going to have to carefully plan out when I taste the food I'm cooking from now on so I can actually eat at the end!

You know how some grocery stores will set out sample displays in the various departments, i.e. deli meat, deli cheese, fresh orange chunks, cream cheese spread, etc.? There's one store in particular that I shop that does this all the time. When I'm there I might sample a piece of deli meat & cheese, and maybe a bit of fruit. After 3-4 bits, I've had lunch compliments of the store :D Of course, I make my choices wisely so I don't spend the calories or stomach space on junk.

Haha that's so smart! Next time I'm going to BJs, I'll wait till I'm ready to have a meal of their samples!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
