Hi Post-oppers! I'm trying to determine if my husband will need to take off from work after my surgery. Other than the day that you arrived home from the hospital, did you feel like you needed someone with you for the first couple of days? Thanks for any input!

My surgery was on a Thursday and I went home Sunday. My hubby was back to work Monday but our 12 year old son stayed home with me because he didn't want to leave me. He was a great helper! I think having someone with you on your first full day home is an excellent idea.

My husband took a weeks vacation to stay home with me. I appreciated, VERY MUCH, having someone there as support, to help get things for me, to go on short walks outside with me, etc. I think it would be nice for you to have him for a couple of days if possible. Remember, you will have had major surgery. Perhaps he can schedule to be off a few days and if you don't need him he could return to work early...

My husband did not take off except for the day of surgery and two days after when I came home from the hospital.

You don't really need anyone, but I know it has been nice having my husband home, at least for the first two days. Lol

My fiance stayed with me day of surgery and next day.. Then son stayed next three days, then fiancé next two days... It was great to have someone to get this for you and help you get around... Remember not to bend or try to lift anything !

I was sleeved On a Monday and my hubby stayed home 3 days and my Momma the other 2. You don't necessarily need the help physically but having someone to help you move from area to area when you are stir crazy, remind you to take you pain Meds, help you take short walks outside, etc.... Makes recovery a lot easier. ???? good luck to you!!

I will be one week out tomorrow. My husband works weekends and took the weekend off. I have GREATLY appreciated this as we have 4 boys with the youngest being two! He has handled the children since we've been home from the hospital and it's been wonderful!

Yea my husband took a week off to stay with me, it was a huge help because you know we can't do heavy lifting or certain things plus I didn't feel all that! Thank god for him.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
