You should walk as soon as you're not too groggy that you'll fall over. You can drive, etc as soon as you no longer need pain pills. For me that was a day or two.

For me the limiting factor was exhaustion due to limited calorie intake. I didn't return to normal for about 6 weeks. Workouts were tough in the beginning.

The only thing about driving is the seatbelt becomes uncomfortable on the incisions or if you brake hard you can hurt them just be careful when you drive!!

And yeah when you are off the pain med you do get a DIU if the catch you driving after taking pain meds my doctor told me that!!

The evening after surgery they had me up and walking the halls and each day of hospitalization I tried to increase the time I walked. The day I came home from the hospital I walked a mile. Luckily the walking prevented me from suffering the terrible gas pains that others describe here. I drove a car as soon as I was 24 hours off the pain medication which was day three at home after being released from the hospital. No lifting of course but I encourage you to move as much as possible several times a day. You will feel better if you do.

I was up walking within 4 hours of waking up and out shopping less than 24 hours Walked a couple miles that first two days. Flew on a plane, drove 5 hours, plowed my driveway, fed horses, more shopping, errands, laundry, etc all within the first 5 days. Back to work within a week.

I was up walking within an hour of surgery, and walking around the house in laps the first week. It took me about a week and a half to very back to cardio and I went to work after 10 days.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
