So I had my surgery two days ago, June 1st, and I must say I have been in more pain than I expected and than what I have heard others discuss. I am not sure if it is just really bad timing ( female troubles the day after surgery!) or if this is normal and I am just a baby when I comes to pain. I am having problems getting in all my fluids and Protein. So far today I have only gotten in around 20 oz of fluids and less than 10 grams of protein. According to my food tracker I have only had 65 calories today!!!! This is crazy. I do feel better then I did yesterday though, so I guess that's positive. Anyone else experience this level of restriction initially or this level of pain. When I walk I feel that I need to hold the bottom of my stomach, like I have no muscle control and everything is going to fall out! sleeping is sucks too, I only get a couple hours at a time. It's really hard to lay all the way down. Oh well, enough of my complaints. I know this will get better soon.........????

I had nothing to eat or drink the day of surgery, and only a few ice chips the second day. The ice chips made me foam and spit up. I guess I had 0 calories for the first three days. On day 3 I was able to sip on some VitaminWater Zero... and from that day on I haven't had any more problems getting my fluids in. It just varies for us all, but I know that for the first week it is more important to work on getting the fluids in than the Protein or calories.

I am 6 days post op and still having trouble getting in much Fluid. Some days I do better with the Protein but now I am really focusing on fluids. I don't want to get dehydrated and end back up in the hospital. On top of surgery I have caught a cold with a raging sore throat which makes getting fluids down even more difficult. They put me on amoxicillin today so I pray tomorrow is a much better day. Just keep sipping and do the best you can. Good luck.

Sleeved June2nd. Pain is constant today but a friend recommended getting a belly band. It seems the jiggling is what causes the pain. I feel blessed not to have nausea and managed to get down 35 ounces of Water and 11 ounces of Protein Shake. I was feeling sorry for myself this morning but put on my big girl panties and took a walk. The fresh air did wonders. I love to hear I'm not the only one struggling. I had prepared myself but I feel like I have something to prove to the naysayers. My husband is very supportive but other family members think I took to drastic of a step and I feel like I need to hide my struggles because they feel better that I am struggling. Well screw them. I got this. They can keep their negativity and suck on it. Sorry. Felt a little powerful there for a moment. I got this. I just need to answer to myself.

I'm right there with you! Got 10 oz of Protein yesterday but not enough fluids and started to show some dehydration. Just doing fluids today and am able to handle more in an hour. Will try protein again when I get over half my fluids in. Slow and steady I guess!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
