bridget77 2 Posted June 3, 2015 I got my lap band in 2007 and for a while I was using it and went from 340 pounds to 240 pounds. However shortly after getting the band I got into an abusive relationship that caused me a lot of stress. In 2011 I stopped going to the doctor entirely and I have been overeating ever since. I am back up to almost 300 pounds, which is only 40 pounds less than my highest weight pre-surgery. I am now divorced and I know I need to be accountable and go back to see a doctor. I have moved since the surgery and wonder if I should drive the few hours to see my initial surgeon in order to get a referral to a surgeon/doctor in my new town? Also if I have stretched out my pouch is there any hope for me? Or will I have to get a revised surgery? I didn't follow any of the post-surgery recommendations for the past few years. Is all hope lost? I could really use support and advise right now. Thanks.
Sharpie 3,306 Posted June 3, 2015 I would go back to the original surgeon and get a referral. You might want them to do a barium swallow so they can see how your band looks. I am glad you got out of your relationship and can now focus on you. I think once you get a fill and start back on your plan you will do well. Hope is never lost and it's never too late.. I sometimes get discouraged but I come here for support and I also watch the 600 lb life shows to see how brave and courageous those folks are and through all of their struggles they keep fighting. I am hoping you will be successful as well.
Bandista 7,466 Posted June 4, 2015 Hi there, for me this process has really been about choosing myself first. I'm glad you are able to show up for yourself and get healthy now. You deserve the best! Put those medical professionals to work -- your band is probably fine but you may need to have a fill or perhaps all liquids for a short time to reboot, etc. get the information and take it from there. Here's to choosing happiness!
bridget77 2 Posted June 4, 2015 Thank you both for your replies. I made an appointment to see a doctor in the town where I live now. My old surgeon is releasing all of my medical records. Here's hoping that this will help me get back on track!

B-52 7,113 Posted June 5, 2015 If you have not been seeing your Dr., how do you know you've stretched your pouch? I have a way of telling with mine, just curious what your way of telling is....if it is stretched, getting a fill will not be wise, but your Dr. will probably take all the Fluid out to give it a rest and let things return to normal. Then start the process all over......IF it is stretched.
bridget77 2 Posted June 5, 2015 B-52 - I don't know for sure it's been stretched, however I have been eating to the point of being too full quite often. It's a terrible habit of returning to emotional eating, for sure. In the past few weeks I have gone back to old and better habits of stopping when I am first noticing I'm satisfied. Hopefully I can undo any damage that has been done by overeating without too much medical intervention. Thank you for your reply.
