I am 3 months out and down 65 pounds. Problem is I am also starting to lose my hair too. I try to get as much Protein in a day as I can but it is probably only around 40-50 grams daily. Does anyone use protein pills? If so, what kind? My stomach is good with pills so if there was something out there that could get me another 40 grams in a day that would be amazing.

Biotin won't regrow hair but it will make your hair a bit healthier and sometimes grow faster. You can always supplement your meals with a Protein shake. Good ones are pretty high in Protein, up to 30 g. Good luck!

I have looked into Protein pills before, but they just don't seem worth it to me. All the pills I found only contain 1g of protein per pill. It would get very expensive taking 40 pills a day to get all that protein in.

I have found that Quest protein chips help me get my protein in everyday. A whole bag contains 21g of protein. They taste pretty good too!

My main question here would be, why are you only getting in 40-50 grams of Protein a day? What are/aren't you eating? Are you putting protein first with every meal? Are you supplementing your protein intake with shakes or bars? At 3 months out, I had no food restrictions and was able to get in the 85-100 grams of protein per day my nutritionist recommended.

Are we talking about Biotin and/or so called "hair vitamins" or actual Protein pills? I've never heard of Protein pills but supplements like Biotin, and collagen taken in conjunction with a Multi-Vitamin can help strengthen your hair. It will not make it grow, but it may make your hair healthier and lessen the effects of Hair loss. I was taking biotin before WLS because I am menopausal and have dreadlocks. Pos-op WLS around month 5 I saw some thinning mostly around my temples. I just make sure to get at least 70+ gms of protein a day, eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of Water. I also reduced the amount of manipulation I put my hair through each day. For me that means decreasing the retwisting maintenance and styling I would typically do. If you are a person who wash and blow dries daily, perhaps switch to letting your hair air dry, using dry Shampoo and only doing a regular wash every other day. Biotin and similar products are not a miracle cure and there is no way to guarantee whether or not you will experience hair loss.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
