Recommended Fitness Trackers?

Recommended Posts

I have decided to get an activity tracker, but which one? My most consistent exercise actvities are walking and bike riding. I would like to track distance and speed. I'm also interested in user friendliness and easy integration with MyFitnessPal. So with those preferences, what do you all recommend?

I was also thinking that maybe I should get one with a screen. I'm not good with cryptic symbols and indicator lights. Does anyone have any recommendations.

I used to have a fitbit but it broke just a few months after I got it because it got wet. Now I have a Garmin VivoSmart which I love. It's waterproof up to 10 meters, so I can go swimming with it. It is compatible with MFP too. Very user friendky interface. I love that it tells me when to m ove too.

I really liked that feature of the Vivo. It was also cheaper than the fitbit, but it is not compatible with my phone.

I did a lot of research before I got my fitness trackers and I ended up with a fitbit charge HR for steps and basic activity. I don't connect it to my fitness pal or anything. I just essentially use it as an indicator of how active I was that day and push myself to try to do better the next day. For working out and running/hiking/biking ect. I went with the polar m400 with HR monitoring chest strap (I don't mind the chest straps honestly and I feel there the most accurate. For the price range it seems to have everything I need and the polar ap is pretty good. Am very happy with my choices and although I'm not sure i should be so focused on gadgets these things keep me motivated and are kind of enlightening.

I use a Fitbit Charge and it works well with MyFitnessPal.

I have a Garmin 310xt, so I'm biased towards them....I often say its the best money I've EVER spent. When I first bought it over 2 years ago, I pretty much used it for cycling only. Now I use it for running, and some limited swimming. It has built in GPS, and you SHOULD use a Heart rate strap with it, although it works without it. Nothing that I'm aware of will accurately keep track of calories burned without a HRM.

My GF has a Fitbit Charge HR, and she really likes it.....FOR MOST THINGS. It does not keep accurate distance when she runs. Walking it's spot on when compared to a GPS unit. IMO, "activity trackers" are a good device for general tracking.

Fitbit makes the Surge as well that has a HRM built into it....but she took it back because it was too bulky for her.

If you wanna check out DCRainmaker on youtube, he reviews all of the various devices.

My vote.......Garmin products....and ONLY with a HRM.

Now I wish I had waited a bit for a few more responses, but I ordered the Fitbit Charge HR. I wanted to receive it in time for my anniversary tomorrow so I jumped on the first few recommendations.

I'm excited about getting a new toy!

I have a Jawbone UP 24 and a Fitbit charge hr. I like the jawbone app better but like the technology of the Fitbit more.

I have the basic Jawbone band. I like the look of the FitBits better but I much prefer the Jawbone UP app. Plus it now has all of my regular meals programmed into it and I'd hate to have to start all over with a new app. Plus there's a bit of vanity too - I have been using it since surgery so the graph showing weight loss is nice and steep. I considered upgrading to one of the new Jawbones that claim to measure heart rate and REM sleep but 1) they're expensive and 2) most reviews I've read say that they, and other similar bands that claim to do similar things - aren't actually all that accurate. So for now, I'm sticking with my crappy $40 basic band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
