Vomiting during first 6 weeks bad...but what about...

Recommended Posts

Gagging? I know this sounds so dumb but I have a bad gag reflex..brushing my teeth, drinking certain things, etc..

If I gag badly or a few times in a row..could that cause the band to slip like vomiting could ? I sure hope not!

@@Butterfly512 your going to be OK with the gag reflex. It's the vomiting that can cause the damages to your stomach and esophagus since it's using the muscles to kind of turn things inside out almost. When your gagging it's just that reflex at the base of your throat when you vomit it comes from deep down inside and brings your stomach and the acid within up through the stoma of the band this is something we want to try to avoid as much as possible so we don't hurt ourselves.

Don't worry about your natural gag reflex but take it slow with the things that trigger it so your not taking that next step. I know sometimes I can be sensitive as well to certain things and it's a very quick step for me to go from one to the other depending on the stimulus.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
