I had my surgery on March 10th at the Orlando Regional Hospital by Dr. Jawad. My experiance wasa very comfortable. Everyone was very attentive and professional. The nurses were angels especially when I first came out of surgery. I was very uncomfortable in the recovery area when I first woke up and they ran to my side right away to comfort me. I remember one in particular that was hugging me and being very motherly. I was there for a day and then wqas sent home feeling great.

My husband and i also had our surgeries with Dr. Jawad at Orlando RMC. He was very thorough and the nurses were awesome. We electected to drive from Ocala to have our surgery him perform our procedures there. He was the BEST choice for us!

My friend's dad had surgery at Memorial. Mine was at Baptist in Jacksonville. His process was pretty easy...his insurance cleared him in 6 months, he had no pre-op diet, and while his weight loss has been slow he has had zero complications. I don't know who his surgeon was, but at Baptist all the bariatric surgeons worked together through the same group, so maybe Memorial is like that to?

@@MzStockton - I had mine at St. Vincents Southside. It was a great experience. Dr. Uchal and his staff took great care of me before and after. I wanted to go to Riverside but I also wanted to be first in that morning for surgery. The best appointment for that was May 6th 2015. No regrets! I have BCBS federal employee (spouse), had 3 classes (one each month) and a nut & psych appointment as well. I had medical documentation showing numerous attempts at prescription weight loss. Paperwork was submitted third week in March and approval paperwork rec in mail by April 3rd. I had surgical appointment about two weeks later (21st?) and could've had surgery on the 29th because I started pre-surgery diet pretty much as soon as I completed last class in March.

Thanks everyone for your responses. So far I've heard good things about Memorial and Dr. Deperi so I'm going with them. Had my first appt today but due to severe thunder storms and me having to travel I rescheduled for later this month

I had mine at Tampa general Hospital. My surgeon was Dr Gonzavlo. I do not recommend him. When I got sick after surgery and had 5 hospital stays and so many complications. He just scratched his head and seemed to refuse to consult his peers to help save my life. I finally demanded my wife's surgical team Dr Moore and he was a godsend and he finally got me better under his care. The other surgeon had no compassion or bedside manner

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
