MzStockton 182 Posted June 2, 2015 I have a desk job will one week off from work be enough healing time? I know everyone's success and recovery time is different just wondering.
KCLatina 16 Posted June 2, 2015 That's all I took off since I don't do any lifting or walking. I was good to go but made sure I was off pain meds by then.
LisaPunkinHead 187 Posted June 2, 2015 Doc said 2 weeks off for me, but I worked from home at the time so I just rested with my laptop in my lap. Except for the post-op brain fog, I did fine!
KindaFamiliar 3,867 Posted June 2, 2015 Same here. A week was enough. I was happy to be doing something again!! Kinda...

AvaFern 3,516 Posted June 2, 2015 I had a week off and went back to a full-time desk job without any issues. I was a bit tired at the end of the day, but it's really more than enough time for recovery. Good luck!
sandyb68 46 Posted June 2, 2015 Should be enough. I was off a week then worked from home second week. Main thing was being extremely tired. Week 4 for me was tough, I thought I had a bad gall bladder and was in a whole lot of pain. Just take it easy.
MzStockton 182 Posted June 2, 2015 Great I'm aiming for a week, hope I can get a date around a holiday so I'll have that extra day off as well. I'm just beginning though so I'm a long way from that point at the moment
2bullymom 44 Posted June 3, 2015 I set my goal at one week but wound up taking two. I was just so tired And my body needed the extra week to recover. Good luck to you!
mallen1895 108 Posted June 5, 2015 I took two weeks off and also had the extra day for the Memorial Day holiday. So it worked out for me. I was to tired to go back after one week I'm almost at 4 weeks now and feel good
miller1109 116 Posted June 6, 2015 I needed two weeks.
twittymilk 51 Posted June 6, 2015 I was sleeved on 5/18 and took advantage of the Memorial Day holiday since my job gives us a 4 day weekend and took a week and half off from work. I felt fine going back but did not really feel like myself until 2 weeks post op. I was really tired the first day back. Part of it is my commute I live and work in NYC and the subway life is pretty exhausting on a normal basis.
RaginCajun 177 Posted June 7, 2015 You can probably tell that it REALLY DEPENDS! For me, I had no pain and no discomfort and was working (albeit at home) 3 days after surgery. Could easily move around, walk up stairs, drink liquids, and was eating soft foods at DAY 8 post op. You might ask your surgeon if he has any prediction for someone of your size and shape and body anatomy, as to how you might fair - recovery wise. However, I suspect that the answer will be 'it depends and we really cannot predict'. My Doc - a good one with lots of experience and does 300+ WLS a year - told me that his patient outcomes were about 50/50. 50% had no pain, no discomfort, no problems with drinking or eating post-op, and recovered quickly going back to work no more than one week post-op. The other 50% had any number of issues AT FIRST. But in all cases, over time, things stabilized. It may simply be a toss-up and its not possible to predict. Good luck, hoping you are in the lucky 50% bucket -RC-
