I have a desk job will one week off from work be enough healing time? I know everyone's success and recovery time is different just wondering.

That's all I took off since I don't do any lifting or walking. I was good to go but made sure I was off pain meds by then.

Doc said 2 weeks off for me, but I worked from home at the time so I just rested with my laptop in my lap. Except for the post-op brain fog, I did fine!

I had a week off and went back to a full-time desk job without any issues. I was a bit tired at the end of the day, but it's really more than enough time for recovery. Good luck!

Should be enough. I was off a week then worked from home second week. Main thing was being extremely tired. Week 4 for me was tough, I thought I had a bad gall bladder and was in a whole lot of pain. Just take it easy.

Great I'm aiming for a week, hope I can get a date around a holiday so I'll have that extra day off as well. I'm just beginning though so I'm a long way from that point at the moment

I set my goal at one week but wound up taking two. I was just so tired And my body needed the extra week to recover. Good luck to you!

I took two weeks off and also had the extra day for the Memorial Day holiday. So it worked out for me. I was to tired to go back after one week I'm almost at 4 weeks now and feel good

I was sleeved on 5/18 and took advantage of the Memorial Day holiday since my job gives us a 4 day weekend and took a week and half off from work. I felt fine going back but did not really feel like myself until 2 weeks post op. I was really tired the first day back. Part of it is my commute I live and work in NYC and the subway life is pretty exhausting on a normal basis.

You can probably tell that it REALLY DEPENDS! For me, I had no pain and no discomfort and was working (albeit at home) 3 days after surgery. Could easily move around, walk up stairs, drink liquids, and was eating soft foods at DAY 8 post op.

You might ask your surgeon if he has any prediction for someone of your size and shape and body anatomy, as to how you might fair - recovery wise. However, I suspect that the answer will be 'it depends and we really cannot predict'.

My Doc - a good one with lots of experience and does 300+ WLS a year - told me that his patient outcomes were about 50/50. 50% had no pain, no discomfort, no problems with drinking or eating post-op, and recovered quickly going back to work no more than one week post-op. The other 50% had any number of issues AT FIRST. But in all cases, over time, things stabilized.

It may simply be a toss-up and its not possible to predict.

Good luck, hoping you are in the lucky 50% bucket :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
