Post Op Day 14 - Feeling Full and Discomfort

Recommended Posts

Hello, I was banded on May 19th and was very excited to start soft/mushy foods a few days ago. Tonight, I had one of my NUT recommended recipes which I love. I either ate too much or too fast and have spent the last 40 minutes seriously burping. How do people get in touch with the triggers to stop eating? Is the extreme burping normal? Any advice would be helpful. thanks

I interrupt my meal. About five minutes in, I get up, go to the bathroom, wash my hands, and return to the table. That mini break from chewing is often enough time for my brain to get the message that I've eaten something. It makes it then easier for me to continue slowly, and decide after each bite whether I'm satisfied or not.

Slowing things down dramatically is the only way I know of to "hear" my soft stops.

I just started purée food today. I really slowed down and tried to pay attention to feel this soft stop, but I don't think I noticed anything. What should I feel like? I think I'm full but I guess so used to eating more that I'm like..."uhhhh, what do I do now?"

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
