nikkimapr 177 Posted June 1, 2015 I have looked into Gastric Surgery in past but insurance didnt cover. Last year this time I was having daily headaches that were very painful and vision loss. Went to opthamologist and both optic nerves were severely swollen. He sent me to neurologist for CT scan and MRI to rule out tumor. Ended up with pseudo tumor diagnosis due to amount of spinal Fluid built up. To release some fluids and get the spinal fluid pressure tested I was sent for spinal tap. FYI most horrible thing I have ever been through! My pressure was extreme. After our niece had this surgery I decided to look into surgery again and found my current insurance covered! I have my gastric sleeve scheduled for June 23rd, has anyone else had PTC, and if so has surgery reduce the spinal pressure and optic nerve swelling?
tnl1031 52 Posted June 1, 2015 I had 3 bouts with PTC. They were quite a while ago though. I wasn't allowed to get pregnant until I got my pressure under control. I haven't had any PTC issues since 2001, had my son in 2002. I just had the sleeve done last September. My doctor always told me that any weight loss you have is going to help with the PTC. Do it for you and if it helps other problems, that's great!
jacileggs 402 Posted June 1, 2015 I was diagnosed with pseudo tumour cerebri about five or six years ago. I felt humiliated because You know your fat when the eye doctor tells you to lose weight. It always worsened with my weight gain and improved with any losses. I am now 145 lbs at 5"3'. No more symptoms. It has completely resolved. I had gastric bypass jan 2013.
