Hyena hernia repair and sleeve...

Recommended Posts

I am also having a hyena hernia repair if I spelled that right lol with my sleeve. Has anyone else went through that procedure with the sleeve? What should I expect?

lol...I also had a hiatal hernia and it went fine. I was actually more tender from that than the sleeve. Basically I had a more tender area at the top of my stomach but it felt better after just a couple days for me. It didn't create any other issues than that. Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

I had a hiatal hernia repair and sleeve done at the same time. My surgeon said if he hadn't told me about the hernia repair I never would have known. I had a really uneventful recovery. I never had gas pains. I never had incision pain. My worst pain was like I had done WAY, WAY too many sit-ups. I had surgery on a Monday morning and too pain meds through Weds in the hospital. I took a pain med about 45 minutes before my husband picked me up. I had an hour 15 minute ride home and wanted to make sure I was comfortable. I took another right before bed on Weds night just to make sure I would get a good night's sleep and then never took another pain pill- even Tylenol.

I don't think the hernia repair made any difference in my recovery.

Wow.... I pray I could be just like you. Lol I do have a high tolerance I'm a run to for pain so hopefully that will also back me up. Thank you I appreciate the information.

I had a hernia repair done. I didn't even know I had a hernia. I'm 4 days post op today and haven't had any issues other than gas pains, but even those are manageable.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
