When did you Return to work

Recommended Posts

It hard to get bored with a husband, and two teenage boys 15 and 17 years old. Lmbo. I simply catch up with my family needs. Funny how I learned that they also needed time adjusting to my needs. ( like please stop using up my Protein powder).

I was given 3 weeks by my doctor. He is so wonderful he would have given me more but I don't want to abuse the work leave. I have a desk job too so it really has nothing to do with heavy lifting but working and dealing with the low energy and graduation into liquids to puréed to mushy food takes some getting used to. He really felt that someone needs to time to get their eating on track... No rushing, no mindless eating ... Stick to sipping and chewing. I'm all for it. My energy level is terrible as well so it's nice to have the time to work on that while I start up my work out programs again. After 3 weeks I will be absolutely ready.

That may be the reason my doctor said 4 weeks no if, ands, or buts! My manager wanted me back the week after surgery because the unit had an unexpected shortage on night shift....my partner was out due to an MVC per her doctor's orders do that left day and evening shifts to cover.

I had provided a solution when my doctor told me 4 weeks 2 weeks before my surgery but my manager dropped the ball then expected me to be "Johnny on the spot" and come in. My doctor was not happy and said unconditionally "No!" And writ a second excuse in case they tried to deviate from the FMLA paperwork she signed previously.

Board, yes a little. Very tired though on some days to the point of napping like a baby while other days I have tons of energy! Still on full liquids until next week then it's soft food in week 4 post surgery per Dr. Camelo.

Everyone is different and ultimately the PCP and or surgeon decides based on the individual. My PCP is not the generous type but neither is she too relaxed....she is straight forward and a "no holds barred" with her patients! LOVE her!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
