Seminar scheduled for June 8th.

Recommended Posts

After months of consideration and finally coming to the conclusion that I can't do this "dieting" on my own any longer; I made the decision to take the next step and voice my desire for WSL with my family. To my surprise my husband was very supportive. I called my insurance only to find out that they don't cover it. I was stunned that my husband said I shouldn't let that deter me from this if it would make my life better. So, I have spent so much time reading and asking questions on forums and I found this place today. I'm anxious to get to the seminar and see what that is all about. Thank you all for sharing your stories, trials and tribulations! I appreciate your information. What can I expect from the seminar?

First of all I want to congratulate you on making the decision to take your life back. I recently went to the seminar and they were very informative as far as what the surgery entails and what surgeries are available. They went over briefly about insurance companies and what they may or may not require to approve the surgery. Afterwards they had a desk set up for initial appointment times if you wanted to make one. Mine was September 17 which was disheartening but I called them 3 or 4 different times and they had some cancellations so I got moved up to June 17th! I'm very excited and cant wait to get the ball rolling!!

I am a self pay because I'm a "low" BMI. In Reno the cost is around $14,000 and includes a "complications" insurance because regular health insurance won't cover post-op problems stemming from a surgery they didn't sanction. Make sure you are provided this coverage!

The proceed is much faster without insurance dictating. It took me only four weeks to do all the classes, evaluations and requirements. Because I don't need to lose weight prior to surgery (I am 34 BMI), I don't have to do a (six week) pre-op diet. I could have had surgery as early as June 15th, which was only six weeks after my initial consult. I am set for my VSG on June 30th!

Good luck to you!

Thank you for that info! That is something that I had not even thought of. I will definitely be asking about the complications insurance. It is $14,400 here in Middle Tennessee.

When I registered for the seminar the lady tied to get to schedule my surgery because she said they were already booked until August... I don't want to feel rushed and told her I would be glad to wait. I am also attending a seminar with another group... I want to meet both doctors and compare notes from them and see what my gut tells me to pick.

Good luck with your surgery! It will be here before you know it.

I received a call today and turns out I do not have to attend the seminar because they said it was 90% insurance related and since I am self pay I will get the appt with the dr and he will go over his part with me one on one. Best part... I have a scheduled surgery date of July 23rd. My dietician and dr appt is scheduled for the same day and then I will see him again before surgery. I'm so excited!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
