My friends and I are going in Feb and we are going with Dr Ortiz and a different company. We are nervous. Does he give a leak test after surgery? Can you tell me how it went for you?

Me too! I'm not on the wet side of the state, but I can't take the heat. My surgeon was Dr Ortiz with a different company in Tijuana.

Hi

I just returned from my surgery at the sister hospital of florence - Clinica San Juan. I used Medical Tourism Co and they were great, especially my case worker Karen. I used Dr. Gonzalez. Just make sure you pay ahead of time if possible for everything since Mexico charges a 16% credit card fee as opposed to the 4% in America.

My only complaint is there was no real pain medication after the surgery in my hospital so I would ask about that before you go what they use specifically. Usually in the U.S. you get IV morphine or something similar day 1 but we got IV Ketrolac put in our IV bag for a constant drip. It took the edge off but I was pretty miserable the first 24 hours.

Was the facility nice?

Extremely nice. I took some photos I'm not sure how to post them as I just joined today. I had a private room and bathroom with shower, a shower chair, a recliner in the room for a guest (I went alone) and I found the bed to be very comfortable for a hospital bed. Everything was extremely clean also. I felt very safe and well taken care of.

I don't think "Clinica San Juan" is related in any way with florence Hospital. It's also as the name says, a CLINIC.

Probably that's why they don't have morphine but we do at Florence Hospital

Oh thanks for that correction! They are the two hospitals Medical Tourism Co. offers so I thought they were related. I probably would have went to florence if I'd known that but I guess it worked out because I was able to walk every hour which helped my pain a lot!

I'm scheduled for January 18th and very nervous about leaving the country. Do you think it's safe to schedule through the Dr rather than Using Medical Tourism?

I think it's a personal decision but am glad I booked through them because they took care of everything - my driver picking me up and taking me where I needed to go, putting me up in my hotel rooms (I know florence has their own though), a case manager who checked on me several times a day, and a separate NUT to guide me. It's up to you though, doesn't hurt to call both and ask questions to make a decision! Best of luck on your surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
