Post-op please help! Packing for hospital

Recommended Posts

I was interested in suggestions for things to bring to the hospital for my VSG procedure. I would like to know what to bring, what worked and what didn't work, etc. I have my procedure on June 2! I am excited, yet nervous. Thank you in advance for helping me with this!!

Gas x is key!! Lol. If for some reason you can't get up right away and walk you'll want to have the GasX strips. I got sick from all the meds they gave me and was vomiting, so I was glad to have my toothbrush, toothpaste, and most importantly the mouthwash. And lastly on the ride home from the hospital a pillow to put on your stomach. It helps when it's a bumpy ride. Good luck to you on your journey!!

I bought all kinds of crap, pjs, bathrobe, slippers, books, magazines etc. didn't use a thing except for my bathrobe, when I went hall walking. Total waste of money.

Cellphone and charger, toothbrush and toothpaste, robe, loose clothes and underwear for ride home. hair ties if you have long hair that kept it out if the way. Slippers or they will provide you with socks if you forget. Everything else wasn't necessary.

Be careful on the gas x my doctor would not allow it so check with him or her first.

Biotein was a life saver. Dry mouth from hell after surgery. Toothbrush tooth paste slip on slippers and robe. Everything else stayed in bag. Get up and walk as soon as possible and keep moving. Good luck and don't look back.☺️

I literally used my cell phone and charger and my toothbrush in the hospital and I used a pillow on the ride home.

Loose clothes to go home in. A bathrobe, cell charger, and lip balm. Toiletries. I brought a kindle but never used it. Slept most of the time there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
