Newbie and I have my first surgeon visit

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new to this site and would love to hear anyone's advice on how to tell your spouse that you are going to a weight loss surgeon and very much considering the surgery. My husband is a little jealous and I really don't know how to tell him that I am going thru with this surgery .. I need some advice. . Thanks in advance!

I might suggest sharing your feelings about your weight and how it makes you feel so that he has a clear understanding. Then invite him to your appointment with you so he is a partner in your decision.

This is very hard on your significant other especially when they themselves are overweight or obese.

Good luck.

I just came right out and told him. After a few years of talking about how much I wanted the surgery, I finally took insurance out through my work after he retired. I told him I took the insurance out for the purpose of having the surgery. I was honest and upfront from the beginning. No reason to hide anything, or be ashamed. This is for your health, so why should he be jealous? He should be happy! After all this is something that can help to extend your life! Best wishes in whatever you decide.

Honesty is always the best policy. When someone loves you they want you to be happy. I was concerned about talking with my spouse, as well. When I started the discussion he was totally closed off to it. His response was "I just don't want it to cause you any health emblems in the future." I them asked him if he would go through the process with me and he said he would t have it any other way. We are attending the seminar to get started in a week. The hardest part was telling him that insurance didn't cover it. That made his eyes bug out a little. ???? he then asked me if I could be disciplined enough to spend that kind of money. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
