I am having my surgery Monday, June 15 at Abington Memorial Hospital with Dr. Bonanni. I start the pre op diet Monday, June 1. I am anxious. I don't really know what to expect. I haven't been on this board much, but I am going to make an effort to do better there. I started this whole process in February 2015. Seems to have been a whirlwind of appointments so far. Thanks for listening.

Welcome and congrats on your surgery date! You have already made a big decision by having the surgery. Research, research, research. The more informed you are the less nervous you will be. We are all here for you and I can definitely tell you that for me, being on this forum and speaking up is a wonderful support system.

Welcome! You can do this! This forum is one of the best support groups I've found. The pre-op diet has not been too bad at all. Not nearly as horrible as I'd imagined.

Welcome, @margied804--I'm having surgery the same day, but at Einstein in East Norriton! I start my pre-op diet Monday, too--I weaned myself off caffeine over the past month, and I've been trying to incorporate Protein Shakes into my diet so it's not a huge shock to my system. My nerves are starting to get to me, too, but I've found that reading these boards had been a huge help in knowing what to expect from the surgery. Good luck!

Almost complete week one of liquid diet. Lost 8 pounds and was easier than I thought. Down 41 pounds overall since March. Doctor wanted me to lose 40 prior to surgery. Very excited. Getting my hair cut short today followed by a pedicure. Hope everyone enjoys the beautiful day today!

It is really not as hard as you think. I've been drinking a shake for Breakfast and a bar for morning snack. Same for afternoon. Lots of liquids. Save meals for dinner time sugar free Popsicles help as well. Losing a pound or two a day with this regimen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
