Im tired of eating meat and eggs Is there anything else i can have and still lose the weight?

Recommended Posts

I had the gastric bypass surgery back in may of 2012 and 6 months after that i got pregnant with my son. After i had him i kept all the same eating habits as i did when i was pregnant. I gained about 45 pounds back and now i am struggling to get back on track. The dr gave me a 5 day pouch test I failed it because i got so hungry that i had to eat. I feel disappointed in myself. I also quit because I was eating meat and poultry and eggs and it was just nauseating to me. I am not a big meat eater. I need help with any tips you can give me because i want to do this again but with less meat and possibly something vegan I can do. Plz help me anyone......

I am one of those people that have never been a huge meat eater but I do eat some.

I drink a premier Protein shake every morning, it has 30 grams of Protein and 1 gram of sugar.

I also eat cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, protein enriched granola, salads with different Proteins on them, beef jerkey, nuts, vegetables and fruits.

If I ate Beans that would be another valuable protein resource.

I stick to healthy meats and quality vegetables and I don't get hungry. It is when you eat too many empty calorie carbs when you get hungry.

The pouch test is absolutely the way to go to get back on track. I would suggest giving it another try.

Good luck to you!

@ Good question. I'm also wondering what a pouch test is.

5 day pouch (Google - it has its own website) is a back to basics program that mimics the eating program you had when you first had WLS. So a couple of days of liquids, then soft food then solids. It is not intended for weightloss but to get you back in the right mindset and to get rid of all those extra carbs that have slipped in. It is intended for people who are AT LEAST one year post op.

@ the 5DPT was supposedly to " test" or " shrink" your pouch. Neither of which it can do! So for that, it was pretty useless, no scientific evidence supported it.

However, for some people, who struggle psychologically to get back on track, it can be helpful. For others, it takes them right back to the "diet" mentality which we had surgery to conquer. Sort of "it hurts so it must be doing good".

It is basically a back to post-op eating squeezed into 5 days.

OP was looking for vegetarian or vegan options.... so not sure why people listed fish, crab, clams, and ham as suggestions!

There's a lot of plant based proteins: Beans (including green Beans, snap peas too), Nuts, Lentils, Brown Rice, Whole Wheat Pasta, Quinoa, Seitan, Soy. And don't forget darker green veggies: 1 cup of broccoli or spinach contains 5-6 grams of Protein (same amount as 1 egg). Also try chick peas and whole grains.

Some vegetarian sources are cheese, milk, anything dairy really.

For Protein powders, I like anything in the Vega line (vegan) and pre-made shakes, I like the Komplete (vegan) and the Cocotein fruit punch (vegetarian).

I hope this helps!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
