I am very excited to make this post!! I have been patiently waiting since November 2014 for my day! Ready for this new journey in life!! A few concerns... So today as I said was my band day, and I am doing overall pretty well. In fact I was doing so well the hospital kept me a few more hours to make sure everything was good. I can get liquids down and do a few things like getting up and down alone, however now I've notice my body is warm and I have a low grade fever of 99.8. The gas has subsided, but I have a pinch pain on the left side of my abdomen that prevents me from laying down, which was not there earlier today!! Any suggestions?? I have my doctors number and have partnered with my mom a 1yr, so if need be I will call him!! Thanks again for any and all advice!!

You were banded today and you have some "pinch pain" preventing you from laying down?

I wouldn't think you have anything to worry about. That could possibly be where your surgeon placed your port.

I slept in a recliner the first few days. A heating pad and ALL the pain med's they prescribed kept me very comfy.

Best wishes on your new life! :)

Welcome and keep posting your progress. Others can learn from your early experiences. And I agree with Catfish.

it is perfectly normal to run a low grade temp. I believe they want you to call if your temp is over 101 unless you have signs and symptoms of infection at incision sites. it sounds as if you are doing very well. good luck on a speedy recovery

Thank ya'll, yeah the pinch pain kept me from sleeping on the left side, and my temp neves went past 99.9, so I didn't have to take any meds... I've never been too fond of heavy pain meds so hopefully I won't need them.. And I definitely will everyone updated!!

For my first 2 days I slept well but my pain didn't start until after that when I was sleeping, so it's natural that the pain comes later on.

You are also lucky if the gas has passed but if it comes back, lie on your right side and take paracetamol liquid if you have pain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
