Something wrong with my incision

Recommended Posts

I am 8 months postoperative, had mini incision RNY. Until this past week my incision was fine, healed nicely and looked fine. This week I noticed that the incision was itching. Then I noticed that the incision line was starting to raise up and now it is very red. So now it is really itching, very red and raised up. It is a bit sore when I touch or press on it. Has anyone else had any issue similar to this? I find it hard to believe that there could be an infection in an 8 month old incision that had healed properly a long time ago. BUT I am getting a bit worried about this. Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't know if that's possible, but at this point I'd believe ANYTHING!

I am dealing with an infection of port site right now, not fun. But that started while I was still in the hospital. It seems to be doing ok, so far, I see the Surgeon again on Monday, we'll see what he has to say.

My advice would be, to mark the edges of the redness with a pen, and see if redness grows beyond the borders with time. Also, check if you have a fever, any other symptoms. I'd call their hotline number or emergency number at your Bariatric center, just for peace of mind.

Good luck with everything! Keep us posted.

It's worth getting a MRI check.

I went back 3 times with pain on my port site, I knew something wasn't right.

It turned out I had an incisional hernia on the port site. Just a small one but they can sort it out.

You know your body, so keep getting it checked if you know it's not right

I hope it's nothing though!

Definitely get it checked!!! You could have developed a staph infection which can be extremely serious!!!!

To @ point, you could have developed a staff infection just from scratching it.

I would make an appointment and get in to be seen as a. They can get that cleared up before it becomes a real problem for you.

Trust me, I have had a staff infection if that is what it is and ended up in the hospital for 3 days to be treated with IV antibiotics. Mine got out of control and crept up my leg and arm very rapidly.

I learned then that everyone carries a bit of staff around with them and it can become serious if not treated.

Best to get it checked out.

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
