I am 5 1/2 weeks post-op and according to my post-op diet plan I should be able to enjoy small meals including chicken, fruits and veggies. However, when I even try a small amount of ground meat I get violently ill. What am I doing wrong? Getting pretty bored with yogurt, cottage cheese and the occasional bowl of oatmeal. Suggestions?

I haven't tried fish yet. What kind did you start with. I am trying not to rush through it, but am craving salty foods...too much sweets (I never ever thought I would say that)

The week I was allowed fish I had grilled salmon at a family cookout, baked tilapia from a local restaurant, and tuna from a pouch. Fish is one of my go-to foods now.

Also...tilapia (fish) is very digestible. And soft. I enjoyed finely shredded tuna salad with low-fat mayo or minimal olive oil. I like all veggies and did well with light spray of Pam and a few tablespoons of Water and then saute zucchini, or spinach. For me adding garlic or herbs like crushed rosemary added great flavor. Cook all the veggies very soft and don't forget to eat slowly and chew alot. Early on I made a beef stew that I blended a bit and froze portions of in an ice cube tray. That was actually really tasty, filling and an easy quick meal.

Hi I am 6 1/2 months out , and still have difficulty eating.I still require 2 Protein Shakes and eat eggs , cottage cheese ,steamed well vegetables and fresh fruit. I do not do well with any meats. It just feels like a rock in my stomach. I have lost 120 plus pounds.I was about 300 pounds and I am 5 foot 11 inches tall .Every one says moisten the meat , eat fish ,but hasn't worked for me.Good Luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
