4 + weeks out and feeling regretful and hungry

Hi to all who can help me as I am feeling like I wish I had never had this done. My surgery was done on 4.27.15 so I am just a little over a month out and I always ALWAYS hungry. One of the reasons I decided to have the sleeve done was because I wanted to curb these feelings of constant hunger and it has done NOTHING. I am beyond frustrated and disappointed and am regretting this whole thing; anyone else feeling the same way or have any suggestions? I was also losing weight daily and now I seemed to be stuck at the same weight and even have gained a couple of pounds; any suggestions?

I always found that eating processed foods loaded with carbs kept me hungry or I became hungry 2 hours after eating. You might look closely at the kinds of foods you're currently eating and try to eliminate anything that has a high carb count - except vegetables. :-) Once I cut out the things that had added sugar or processed carbs, my hunger pangs subsided to almost nothing. Hello, first time poster to this forum but wanted to provide some information related to the hunger feeling. From what I have researched, the hunger feeling may be caused by an abundance of acid in the stomach. This tricks the stomach to think that it has the empty feeling. Have you been faithful in taking your pepcid or whatever other anti-acid your doctor prescribed? I'm almost 2 weeks post-op (30 lbs down I might add) and can safely say that my hunger feelings are extremely lower in comparison to what they were pre-surgery. Hang in there, stick to the diet guidelines and it will get better!

I think we all been there feeling regretful after a few weeks from surgery but trust me it will pass and once u get to eating even tho u feel hungry after a few bites u will get full faster and that's what it will help to lose the weight!! Hang in there

Hi, I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out, so I don't have much advice on the hunger issue. But I do understand. I find that I'll "eat" and then about two hours later get hungry. That then leads to thoughts and feelings of frustration because I can no longer eat like a "normal" person, and that totally activates my old (and learning to subside) feelings of food addiction. So then I have myself a good old cry-fest! Lol. One of these cry-fest occurred last night... To which I told my husband I knew it would be hard, but not THIS hard. I said I wished I would have just done it on my own... To which (in a loving and supportive manner) my husband reminded me, that the whole reason I decided to do the surgery was because I did try to do it on my own over and over for many years, and needed the surgery to finally help me reach where I've always wanted to be.

I also searched the boards and while a good chunk of people were very positive and never regretted a thing... But that wasn't me. So I also found other people who said those feelings of regret were completely normal and they felt the same way, and they were also very emotional in the bringing. So while I'm glad some people don't regret a thing, I highly appreciated those who were open with their feelings of regret...because they helped me to realize it I'm normal after all. So while it's hard now, us "regreters", will come out on the other side.

I was sleeved on 4-27 also. I do not weigh myself often, actually twice since surgery. I am down 30# as of last Thursday.

I was told to eat every 2-3 hours for the first 6 weeks. I do get hungry but a small amount of Protein fills me up quick. cheese has been a very good "filler" for me. And it only takes about 1 ounce. Be patient and try eating several small meals/snacks to see if that helps. Keeping in mind, calories, carbs and fat.

This. Acid mimics that horrible feeling of your stomach eating itself it's so hungry. But it isn't hungry. It just feels that way. If you're already on a medication for acid, ask to try a different one. I'm sure this is what your issue is, I had the same one. Thankfully the acid only lasted for about 6 weeks then I discovered the culprit - nitrates. Even now after almost 7 months I still can't eat lunch meat (especially roast beef), bacon or hot dogs without getting severe heartburn. If I get nitrate-free organic versions I don't have a problem. But I mostly try to avoid them altogether. Except bacon. Bacon is amazing.

Seven weeks out. Sleeved 4/13 of this year. I have been lucky I guess for hunger issues have never been severe. Honestly my biggest fear is not having what I thought would be a real restriction. I could still eat more that I am allowed and thus have forced myself to weigh everything I eat with a kitchen scale. I don't suffer from heartburn and haven't needed to take Pepsid or some other antacid. I think that is because I don't eat any processed foods. Everything I eat is cooked at home, weighed, and calories and Protein content are monitored.

I eat 4 ounces of Protein three times a day and none of that protein is from processed foods like lunchmeat, hotdogs, etc. Breakfast is usually a Premier Protein shake or two eggs scrambled. lunch is 4-5 hours later usually consists of 4 ounces of tuna fish, cooked chicken, a left over hamburger from the night before, or some other protein from something that had a mother. dinner is 4-5 hours later and again 4 oz of protein plus 1/2 cup of vegetables. I'm getting in 64-80 ounces of Water which really cuts any hunger I might have between meals. Next week I get to start 1/2 cup of fresh fruit.< /p>

I think getting in the Water, exercising 30-60 minutes a day and avoiding dairy, caffein, processed foods, carbs, sugar, helps stop excessive hunger. I've lost 42 lbs and am thrilled with my progress. I did have a stall at three weeks and had to go back to liquid Protein shakes twice a day to break the stall but since then the weight has come off at about 3-4 lbs per week.

Thanks everyone for their responses all of you have really helped; I am just really frustrated and upset. I've started working out and am sticking strictly to high Protein meals and even doing the shakes (ugh). I know all of these people who lost a lot of weight during their first 6 weeks and I feel like I am stuck; thanks again for your help. :)

I am taking my antacid once a day which I think I might switch to twice a day and making sure I eat at least every 2-3 hours. I do take paxil for depression so I am checking to see if this is stunting the weight loss or not.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
