judanna77 45 Posted May 1, 2016 @@Elle09 I just got back today as well. The surgery went smoothly, but man, I was totally not ready for the amount of pain and nausea I would feel. I'd say the first 36 hours were miserable. I kept on dry-heaving, and that was so painful for my new sleeve. Owww! And all the meds that they gave me never seemed to do anything for the nausea. Then they finally gave me something for the stomach spasms, and that helped a lot. One thing I am loving is this On-Q pain pump- I haven't felt any pain from my incisions at all. I'm a little worried how they are going to feel one the local anesthetic runs out, though. How was your experience? How are you doing now?
Elle09 157 Posted May 1, 2016 The surgery went well. The nausea was pretty bad they finally put a patch on and that seemed to really help. Likewise the other meds just did not pack a punch with the nausea. I have one incision that is really bothersome. Overall my experience was pretty good. I am doing okay still some minor aches in shoulders from the gas. I am finding that my heating pad is giving me some relief and is soothing. I did not come home with the pain pump. Just with my meds. I am doing okay without. I did not have stomache spasms or dry heaves; bless your heart I know that had to be tough. I am glad to know your better. We are going to get through this and keep each other on track. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

judanna77 45 Posted June 23, 2016 @@Elle09 I can't believe it's been eight weeks already! I'm doing great- after those first few awful days in the hospital it got better quickly. I was really tired for the first 4-6 weeks, but now I have some energy back. Meeting the Fluid goal each day is hard- for some reason, liquids all taste gross to me, even though food tastes the same. I'm down a little over 30 pounds- which may seem a bit slow based on the huge losses some of the people here have, but I am really happy about it. I just dropped a big bunch of clothes off at Goodwill yesterday. How are you doing?
Elle09 157 Posted June 24, 2016 @@judanna77 I am doing great. The first few days after surgery were a little rough and it was an adjustment period but once I got into a routine it seemed to get easier. My energy levels for a bit was miserable but things have greatly improved. I am getting some walking in daily but still working to get back to where I was. I am going to try Zumba next week! I just got clearance at my last appointment. As far as the liquids I have greatly improved my intake, thanks to Crystal lite fruit punch flavor, and raspberry lemonade. For some reason I can't seem to stomache Mio drops anymore. Plain Water sometimes makes me nauseous or taste like metal. I have already had a visit to the emergency room and it was not fun. Since surgery I have loss over 30 lbs and I am please. Well it sounds like you are doing great and I am proud of you and excited for you!! Keep up the great work! Elle09 157 Posted June 26, 2016 @@jay4151 Congratulations and welcome to the losers bench!!!! I was sleeved on 28 April 2016. Immediately after surgery I struggled with the Multivitamin. I could not keep it down at all. I had to stop taking it until I started with foods. This was recommended by my NUT. You should call and let them know your difficulties and get advice as that everyone is different but my understanding that this is not uncommon. The first few days is a struggle to get the fluids, but do your best. Before surgery I drank room temperature Water now I can only drink really cold Water. You may want to try warm tea or warm broth. I also found with taste changing I use to love Mio drops but now my favorite is Crystal light Raspberry lemonade and Crystal lite fruit punch. The fruit punch is unusual because I generally don't drink red anything. After surgery to get my Protein in instead of making full 8oz if you are using the Bariatric Advantage I would do four, 4oz drinks throughout the day. It was a little easier on the stomache. Hang in there it sounds like you are moving along and it does get easier! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

ebe44 1 Posted April 2, 2017 Hi all. I am taking the INOVA webinar on Wednesday. Should I also do a in person consult too? How long is the INOVA program, 3 months to surgery. When I spoke with my insurance it sounded like they go with whatever the program recommends. What's the psychological part like? How did you decide on WLS to do? How are you doing now? Elle09 157 Posted April 7, 2017 @ebe44 my experience was that after you participate with the webinar you then call and schedule an appointment. At my first appointment I met with the doc/surgeon. During this meeting we discussed my specific health situation and he went over the various procedures. The psych part essentially was taken an online exam and then a conversation with the psychiatrist. I decided on gastric sleeve based on I wanted less invasive and I already have some nutritional deficiencies and I was concerned about long term supplementation and absorbing Vitamins. With the sleeve and Vitamin deficiencies going into this it was recommended that I follow the vitamin supplementation that gastric bypass patients have. Final decision for the sleeve was made after gastro appointments and I got clearance no gerd issues. I am doing great and best decision I made for myself. Good luck. GMen88 70 Posted April 12, 2017 Hi all. Hi! I was just sleeved at Inova on March 30th by Dr. Nain. Almost two weeks out and 24lbs lost, I'm feeling great. After you participate in the webinar, your next step will be to schedule an in person consult with one of the surgeons. It will most likely be the surgeon who presented during the webinar. During the consult, the surgeon will ask about what brought you there, history of your weight and talk about the different type of surgeries. Then you'll meet with the coordinator so she can discuss with you all of the requirements for your insurance. My insurance required 6 months of classes with Inova Bariatric. From there, Ashley (receptionist) will beginning scheduling your required classes for however long your duration is. On top of the classes, you'll have to see the Exercise guy, Nick, who will discuss pre and post-op exercise plans. Also you'll have to take the psych evaluation which was pretty easy. You'll speak to someone in person. Also, you'll be required to complete a questionnaire online and submit it. The required classes are once a month and go by fairly quickly. During this time, you can begin fulfilling your pre-op testing required by your insurance and the surgeon's office. In terms of how I picked the sleeve over bypass, I did not have a ton of weight to loss and I the malnutrition and dumping that happens with the bypass is something I wanted no parts of! I'm 28 and have slowly but steadily been losing weight and I love it! I'm 50lbs away from my person weight goal.
