I don't count calories or track or measure my food. However, since lots of people do, I took a few spot checks along the way so I could "talk the talk" and here's what I got....

3-4 months - about 800 calories

6 months 1000 calories

(Passed goal at 7 1/2 months)

8-10 months 1200 calories

10-17 months - 1400-1600 calories

(Still maintaining 10 pounds below goal)

I don't count calories (per se). I record my food in MyFitnessPal in order to track my Protein. My protein goal is 100 grams a day. Since I am still eating a lot of the same foods every day (am still trying new foods) I hover right around 1200 calories. My NUT said I should still lose weight at 1400 calories so I don't really look at calories.

I use Fitness Pal too! It really helps keep track of carbs, protein, and fat consumption for me. I've been reading books on VSG as well as potential Carb grams, Fat grams, and Protein grams essential for healthy VSG patients. I try to get between 60-100 grams of protein, <30 grams of fat, and roughly 40-100 grams of good carbs for energy. I've set my goals in the app for 27g fat, 60g carbs, and 80g protein daily for roughly 803 calories daily.

I usually don't make the full 803 calories but try to make 40 plus grams of protein with the addition of an unflavored Protein powder to some foods.

That's just what I'm doing. Everyone is different. Good luck!

Michelle

Recently, during a support group meeting, our NUT gave advice on calories.

After 2-3 months post op, as your sleeve heals and you transition to eating real food, the guidance was:

< 12 months out ... less than 700 cals per day.

12-18 months out, increase to 800-1000 cals per day.

18+ months out, increase to 1100-1200 cals per day.

PS I love and use the 'Lose it!' app on iPhone.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
