hermomma 0 Posted May 29, 2015 I was sleeved on 5/26 and since then have had almost a constant headache, chills- no fever apparently, and feel horrible. Has anyone experienced this??
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted May 29, 2015 I am so sorry you are experiencing this. Have you talked to your surgeon? Are you getting in your fluids and Protein? Are you still on pain meds? If you haven't called your surgeon I would do so.
hermomma 0 Posted May 29, 2015 I called him and he said to come in tomorrow. Could i be drinking too fast and gotten a leak?
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted May 29, 2015 I doubt drinking too fast would cause a leak. Not drinking enough can cause dehydration, though.
sleevenv 483 Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) What you describe is what I had when I had my thyroid removed. I think sometimes people's thyroids crash after WLS and cause those symptoms. It usually bounces back quickly. Edited May 29, 2015 by lauraesutton
Shustar 395 Posted May 29, 2015 Were you a coffee or caffeinated sodas prior to surgery? Could it be wwithdrawals?
00612 12 Posted May 29, 2015 Hello, I had my gastric sleeve on the same day, and I too experience the headaches and over all malaise. Also, after swallowing I have some sharp stomach pain that goes away quickly. I gave up caffeine 2 weeks before my surgery, and am not due to start Protein until next week. Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted May 30, 2015 Hello, I had my gastric sleeve on the same day, and I too experience the headaches and over all malaise. Also, after swallowing I have some sharp stomach pain that goes away quickly. I gave up caffeine 2 weeks before my surgery, and am not due to start Protein until next week. Why aren't you supposed to start Protein until next week? I started protein in the hospital the day after surgery and my surgeon was adamant that we get in enough protein as soon as possible. I was able to reach my protein goal of 100 grams a day since day 2. Protein is critical for healing and weight loss. Even if you are on Clear liquids you should be getting your protein. AvaFern 3,516 Posted May 30, 2015 I had the same symptoms after surgery and my surgeon didn't really tell me much about Protein either so I mostly drank Water and broth. I had chills and my fingers would go numb and it wore off after about 2 weeks. In hindsight, I think it was just a reaction to the anesthesia. I also had a massive headache the entire time, which again in hindsight, was probably being dehydrated and having no real source of nutrients. At only 4 days post-op it is totally normal to feel awful and it is very unlikely that you have a leak, especially without a fever. Hope you feel better! 00612 12 Posted May 30, 2015 Hi, My post op hospital diet was every hour on the hour: 2oz Water, 2oz sugar free Gelatin, 1oz Crystal Light, 2oz sugar free popsicle, 2oz sugar free Gelatin, 1oz Beef broth, 1oz chicken broth, 2oz sugar free Propel, 2oz sugar free Gelatin, 2oz sugar free popsicle, 1oz chicken broth, 1oz Beef Broth, 2oz sugar free popsicle, 1oz sugar free Gelatin, 2oz sugar free popsicle, 2oz water. I guess the broth is the Protein. My menu doesn't reflect protein until day 8. I've gone from 254 pre op, to 235 post op.
sparkles1971 47 Posted June 3, 2015 Every protocol is different. My doc said I could have Protein when released from hospital, so long as it was mixed with Water. I was on clear Fluid 1 week and then full fluids 2 weeks. I had bad headaches for about a week after surgery. I think it was crap food and caffeine withdrawal. Remember, your body went through a major change. Be patient and keep getting in the protein and water.
