Sometimes food won't go down, immediately comes back up.

Recommended Posts

I'm about 6 or 7 weeks post-op. I've experienced this two times. First time was with Chili about a week ago, second time today with some eggs. Both are foods I can normally east just fine so far. Within the first two or three bites I immediately experience a pain in my stomach or slightly above my stomach. Any additional food just makes the pain worst. After five or ten minutes I throw up the little bit of food I ate.

Hoping you guys have some insight on this. Is it going down a wrong tube or something?

For me, when this happens, it is usually because I - 1. Did not chew my food enough and the pieces are too big, or 2. I ate too fast.

I don't think that it is the specific food itself. I have this happen more than I would like as I struggle with eating slow enough, but this is a marathon not a sprint so I just try again and remember to chew well and slow down!

Good Luck!

I've had this happen twice in the last week. The first time it was drier chicken, today it was drier turkey.

I have had this happen a few times as well. Each time it is due to eating too quickly or not chewing the food enough. I have had it happen with chicken and eggs. I am only 7 weeks post op and have to remember that slow and steady wins the race :) I either throw it back up or I have also taken papaya enzymes. They will help to digest the food and avoid the throwing up part.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
