HappyValleyHappy 48 Posted May 29, 2015 Any time you can take a cruise.....take a cruise. Pick and choose what you eat. There's way too much going on on board to worry about food. Take some of the Protein Shakes. Whatever you use. Just enjoy!
sparksrn 65 Posted May 29, 2015 Will it be hard to resist all that food? Or will it be easy because you can't get that much down anyhow? I wonder? I love cruising! But I wonder if I would love it as much after the surgery since food was a big enjoyment for me on the cruise? I just don't know what to expect or how I'll feel! I'm on an emotional rollercoaster! ryn2bthin 87 Posted June 4, 2015 Last July we went on a cruise i was about five months post op bypass surgery. It wasn't as bad as i thought. I just made sure any new foods that i tried i knew where the restrooms were just in case it didn't agree with my new pouch. I personally didn't feel the need to eat, but when i did have meals i just focused on my Protein but i also didn't deprive myself if i wanted to try something. I was so worried of it causing me to dump that food was never a desire. Hope this helped.
canes2015 23 Posted June 5, 2015 Thank you for your post! I am not afraid of all the food but getting sick! Will post when I get back!
canes2015 23 Posted June 15, 2015 Hi everyone, Got back from the cruise! I am 2 1/2 month post op. Let me start with the abundance of food was not the problem at all. I was never hungry. Nor did it bother me seeing others EAT!!! Since I was afraid of dumping or not tolerating the food I was basically eating tuna salad, cheeses, Soups, crackers, and my Premier Protein shake. Whenever my family and I dined in their specialty restaurants I would order Soup. Like I said I do hav issues chewing and tolerance of the food. I went thru NCL and I brought in 2 cases of Water and a case of my liquid Protein Shake. Always got off with my portable cooler that had Water, tuna kits, shakes, and a banana. And lost 2 pounds!!! Hope this helps for those of u cruising so soon after surgery.
trishaz 8 Posted June 16, 2015 Glad to hear you had a great time. I had my surgery May5th, so six week out today. I actually have 4 cruises booked between now and September. I am not worried in the least about the eating part. I can barely eat anything at home so I can't imagine it will be much different on ship. My plan is to relax use the time to finish healing, exercise and have a great time! Did you have to clear your Protein Drinks prior to your cruise? I was going to pack powder but would rather take premium Protein cartons.
canes2015 23 Posted June 17, 2015 (edited) I cruised with NCL and was able to walk in the ship with my Protein shake cartons and Water cases. I left from the Port of Miami. Edited June 17, 2015 by canes2015
Pinkpeonies1 87 Posted July 3, 2015 I am having surgery on 8/5, had a cruise booking for Puerto Rico for 9/20 that I just canceled. Luckily The deposit wasn't too bad a loss. I would have been only 6 weeks out and not sure how I'd be doing with food and stomach tightness. I thought about taking shakes but wasn't sure how. The liquid form might add weight to my luggage and not sure if powder is allowed on a flight, I am assuming as long as it's sealed it should be fine but who knows. I am considering rebooking in November when I'm 3 months out. Has anyone take Protein on their flight, if so what form?
canes2015 23 Posted July 3, 2015 Good question. My daughter has a field trip to Washington DC and I am going to contact the travel agent. I want to take my liquid Protein Shakes and Snacks. Was thinking of taking an extra bag and let airline place it in cargo. Will post once I find out.
Pinkpeonies1 87 Posted July 3, 2015 Yes, please do and thank you!
canes2015 23 Posted July 3, 2015 Hi again! My travel agent advised me I can take my Protein cartons and diet food (tuna kits, bars, Protein chips, etc ) in a luggage and just claim it with my other luggage. Will not be allowed as a carry on, which I knew. But at least they will go with me. I can also send via UPS everything and the hotel will hold package until I get there. Don't know if you have that option. My daughters field trip to Washington DC will be hectic from place to place and I refuse to eat the wrong foods during the day. During the evening I will be able to go to restaurants and have Soups. I still don't tolerate a lot of foods especially red meats or salads! Enjoy yourself on the trip. Eat smart and drink lots of water!! Blessings!
