Gallbladder removal 5 months post sleeve

Recommended Posts

Things had been going so well. At 4 months post went into hospital with extreme pain and vomiting. Was discharged and told it was the stomach bug. 4 weeks later ended up right back, This time they did ultra sound, MRI etc. and I am down one gallbladder. Apparently it's common to have gallbladder problems post op. Guess I missed that. Anyone else have this issue?

I've been having issues for the last month or so. No pain, but a lot of vomiting and nausea. HIDA scan put me on the wrong side of borderline. Debating what to do next. I understand this is not uncommon.

How are you feeling?

I'm experiencing pain from the surgery but don't think I'm dying anymore. Thanks for asking.

Feel better soon!

I assumed Actigall was a given if they let you leave the hospital with your gall bladder - sorry you had to go through that :(

Yes agreed, I was given Actigall but couldn't get it down. Even in applesauce or the like and oh I still remember the doggone fever/flushing I would get trying to get it down, standing at the sink, waiting to bring it up or spit it out (just like the liquid vitamins). By one month out I was already showing problems any way. Mine just couldn't deal with that amount of weight loss.

Never heard of the supplement. Kinda Water under the bridge for me but hopefully someone will learn from this. Will be asking my surgeon in 2 weeks.

Thanks everyone!

I had my gal bladder removed at 6 months post op. I'd had many attacks for the months preceding but they seems to always tie in with bad food choices (like one French fry or a few m&m's one day).

The night before surgery the pain got so bad that I made my husband take me to the ER. I thought my pouch had opened up or sow thing.

They knew within 3 hours what was up and I had it removed the next day.

Glad that's over now!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
