I just got my surgery date!

Recommended Posts

I just got my date not even 5 minutes ago and I'm so so so excited! On June 17th I'm getting sleeved and I can't wait. They even told me if they get an opening earlier than that they'll fit me in. I can't wait for my new chance at life to start!

My name is Cara and I'm 22, living in NY and I'd love to make surgery buddies or mentors or anything!

Do any of you post op people have any suggestions on anything I should be starting now or that you wished you would have practiced more/done before surgery I'd love to hear it, thank you!!

Congrats Cara! How exciting!

Begin not drinking while eating and for at least 30 minutes after. Practice eating slowly and chewing.

If you haven't already do tons of research for things you can eat/drink per your nutritionist plan.

Get yourself a scale to measure your food.

Go ahead and reduce carbs and increase Protein. It will help the eating habit change be not such a shock.

Good luck!! Any questions ask away! I am 13 days post op and down 52 pounds since beginning this journey. Down 21 pounds since my pre-op. This is a great tool with other changes to your life!

Congratulations Cara, this is the beginning of a new life for you. After you get home from surgery

and the weight starts to come off you get this enormous feeling of relief. You will notice that

the more you lose the energy you will have. It is not easy, the surgery is just a tool and if you

use it wisely you will have success beyond your dreams. Good luck to you and we will all look

forward to hearing about your accomplishments.

Thank you guys so much!! Peach, I've been doing the lowered carbs and following the nutritionist's suggestions for the past 6 months that I had to do a weight management class. The Water thing will be a big change for me in a lot of ways because I'm a big water drinker but I can gulp it down like nobody's business lol I'm trying to practice sipping so I'm gunna try to practice the none during or right after the meal, thanks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
