Did/does anyone have a fear of eating post op? I am literally afraid to eat alot of times. They put me on soft foods now and I'm scared to actually do it....

Yes, it is completely normal. The best thing you can do is go slow and try one new thing at a time. Make sure you chew like crazy and everything will be ok.

You learn to eat again by trial and error. Once you get going the fear will subside.

Good luck!

I haven't even had the surgery yet and I'm already afraid to eat! Afraid I'll mess up my surgery or I'll hurt myself, afraid I'll get sick, or WORSE gain weight!

Your pouch will definitely let you know when you've had enough. Pay attention to your body :)

Being afraid is normal. I went to a birthday party this past weekend and literally they served me more than i can eat in a week. I panicked and immediately gander the plate to the women i was sitting next to and offered to help serve. It was a lot more comfortable than explaining why i couldn't eat that much. You will be fine, just chew! ! And chew! ! And chew! !

Chew until is dead and take at least 15-20 mins to eat. I felt the same way but its trial and error. You have to eat lol

I was so scared I actually believe they could have put me out, woke me up and just told me I had surgery and I would have lost weight from being afraid to eat !! Though it wasn't so much afraid to eat as afraid of dumping ! I still won't try any new foods while I'm at work just in case, however for the most part the fear goes away the further out you are. I'm a little over 5 weeks and find it definitely gets easier with time.

I experienced dumping today just by eating a boiled egg. I didn't chew it very well.... My stomach was hurting soooooo bad. It subsided after about 45 mins.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
