What was your past slob memory

Recommended Posts

Several incidents come to mind, all involving sweets (my drug of choice ) , how about eating a half of a large package of Cookies in just an hr or 2 ? Or polishing off a pint of Ben and Jerrys New York Fudge Chunk ice cream ( my favorite, itz's like crack for me !) in 30 mins and wanting more ? Or getting a bag of Brachs candy mix ( bridge mix and maple nut goodies ! Oh my ! ) and eating the WHOLE bag in one sitting ? Geesh !!!!!!! Talk about a sugar addiction !!!!

Ahhh...Ben and Jerry...my ex boyfriends. I spent many a Saturday night having a three some with them. :P  usually New York Super Fudge Chunk or Everything But The (my two favorite flavors). Haagen Dazs Rocky Road is also on that list...chocolate with big nuts. Ok I'm going to stop now. :D

I have and recently I might add....made a bowl of icing or have eaten a tub of premade icing....eating the whole thing...ugh I am pre op and I will be so glad to stop those urges to eat like that anymore! I've made and eaten a whole pan of brownies, sometimes even the batter....and feel like a big slob after doing it.

I've done both of those in a past life also.

Ok, I'll bite on this topic, Aussie. Several notable times: When I was a kid, my dad worked at a bakery. He would bring home baked goods and put them in a large upright freezer which was in a small outbuilding on our farm. At night, after my parents would go to bed, I would sneak out there and help myself. I remember taking a whole pound cake back to my room.

Another time, as a 20 something really fat adult, I was sitting in a Winchell's donut house in Denver. I only had money for one doughnut and a cup of tea. I ate it and then noticed at the table next to me, that a guy had order four large doughnuts and ate two and then just left the others. I stared at those two doughnuts for the longest time. They were cake doughnuts, powdered sugar. Finally, after 20 minutes I reached over and took them, eating and getting powdered sugar all over my beard and tee shirt. Unfortunately, the guy then came out of the bathroom, I thought he had left the store. He looked for his doughnuts and then looked at me, with powdered sugar all over, turning beet red. I had no money to buy him more, and just ran out of Winchells.

Slobovian memories.

I think I was in high school when I had my first true slob moment. (I'm 33 now) I remember going to McDonald's and ordering two bags of food. I didn't want the people working there to think it was all for me so I ordered multiple meals with drinks and everything. I drove away and found a parking lot. I ate so much I made myself sick. A truly disgusting moment in my life but I look back now and realize that was one of my first times actually binging. I could tell you a million stories of whole pizzas, thanksgiving left overs and dishes of Pasta bigger then my face but that day at McDonald's was one of those turning point moments. So gross.

Maybe hitting a drive through & and ordering 2 meals.( One for the car ride home and one when I got home) Its sad. Apparently I would assume the calories consumed in my car did not " count ".

I once ate 63 wings at a sitting at Hooters. Friends would encourage me to try competitive eating. There's lots of stories in there. Including half a pitcher of pepper. granular black table pepper.

But I feel no shame over that, surprisingly. What I feel shame about is eating the remaining half a pint of ice cream in the freezer late one night and having my daughter cry the next day because mommy promised she could have it.

Very interesting thread, I actually read every single post. I guess there's comfort in knowing I'm not the only one that was a bit crazy.

I can't think of a specific example of food I ate so I'll share some old crazy thinking I had. I had a theory that once you hit a certain number of calories (not sure what that number was), your body would no longer be able to store the excess calories as fat. So if you go off the wagon, may as well go all the way off and eat everything. Then get back on track the next day or following Monday.

Little Caesars crazy bread. Downed every one of them. Those things are delicious! I will not be doing that again!

I was at a very important meeting at work and had mint chocolate cookie ice cream smeared all over my lips... Jerks at my table never told me, I found out later when I checked the mirror on my way home because I thought people were looking at me funny...it was everywhere

One of my most shameful slob moments happened during the period of my life when I was struggeling through a divorce. I can't even remember what sent me off on this emotional eating binge....but it started at the Arby's drive-thru ordering a giant roast beef sandwich...then on to McDonald's for a 10 pc. McNugget, fish sandwich, and fries....then to Wendy's for a frosty ans spicy chicken sandwich...then to the last fast food joint before I hit my street which was Taco Bell for some soft taco's. I was eating food from a previous resteraunt while sitting in the drive-thru for the next resteraunt. I remember being so physically stuffed and sick with food, sick with shame, hate, and guilt, sick with self-loathing.

Today I am exactly one year post-op and below goal. The most amazing part of this journey has been cutting the emotional hold that food had on me. Best decision I ever made.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
