Using another surgery to help cover costs?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I posted in the intro thread but thought this would be a better area. I am trying to find out if anyone has any expereience of using another procedure to cover hospital and anasthesia fees. I had a friend who recently had a TT (No WLS) and got it done for $500 because she had a tubal ligation and bladder repair done at the same time. She didn't need WLS but looks great right now with the TT. She told me to check into all the stuff being covered but the WLSurgeon's fees.

I want a tubal ligation and bladder repair is not a bad idea (although i was hoping WLS would fix that). Any ideas here? I am self pay so getting something covered might help!

Thanks!

I once worked at a insurance company and had heard that some drs who knew the ins and outs of the insurance company and how to code things could get away with codeing what would be plastic surgery under other medical codes. One example was that if a woman had a c-section the dr could do a Tummy Tuck at the same time and it would be covered. Not sure if the rumors were true or not.

My girlfriend just did that.. but she is an OR nurse who works with him so he would do it even if he couldnt find a code to bill...

Let me see if I understand this---- If I have to have my gall bladder removed (because it has been bad for years and has a 1 inch stone) as long as the doc is already there, do the Lapband? Is that legal? To me, it seems practical. If I have the Lap Band, I will probably have to get it removed at the same time. What is the difference? Interesting.

I am waiting to ask my doctor. I want my tubes tied and well if they cover all the hospital stuff and I just have to pay lap band surgeon fees... hmmm

Actually, I have probably expressed all of this wrong. I am looking for a way that my surgeon can go ahead and take out my Gall Bladder and do the Lap Band too even though I have an EXCLUSION on my insurance policy against WLS. Now, that is a toughy!

If he is a general surgeon he can take the gallblader out... if the surgery is set up through insurance for this reason and then you would still have to pay some fees for the lap band but all anasthesia and hosptial fees would be covered. HE might even cut his fees for lap band since he will get paid for gallbladder... in fact it's becoming more common to have both done at the same time....

<p><p>This is awesome! I called insurance today and initially the lady said gastric bypass is not covered as my husband's employer didn't pick up the rider, but when I asked about lap band she said "Isn't that the same??" Ummmmm...... no! I don't want bypass, I want the lap band. Trying to determine if that means no weight loss surgery at all or just no bypass. I am hoping that if it is nothing at all I can piggyback it on with getting my hiatal hernia taken care of. Heck, they can check for more endo while they're in there too. This gives me hope that I can work something out. For those of you who have done this, did the DR let you pay in installments or was it one big amount?</p></p>

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
